Mitel 5320e - Main Load erased
« on: May 20, 2018, 03:22:56 PM »
Hello Guys!

I picked up some (used) Mitel 5320e and was trying to set them up for a my new business.
Factory reset the phone.
I switched the unit to SIP mode (no problem), however I couldn't get the unit to register with Sipgate.
Kept flashing *No Reg* after a few minutes of powering on the phone.

As I wasn't having any luck I started to play around with the setup and selected the "Erase Main Load"
Now I cant get into the WEB UI or setup of the phone.
It shows:
DHCP: Discovery
Option 129 missing

I did some research and have my SolarWinds TFTP server active, also managed to
find and download the firmware for the phone, now the question is how do I get the firmware on it without being able to access the phone.
Or have I just bricked the unit?

Hope someone can help

cute..

power up the phone while holding down both volume buttons, then let off teh down volume (still holding up)... they phone will go into a config mode... use that to program the tftp server to get your new main load from. Or just point it at 216.191.234.111 if you want the latest.

Thanks for your reply.

Have tried that but no success.

Screen shows "Cancelled" and boots to DHCP screen (photo attached)
Anything else I can try?

I believe you are going to have to have a local DHCP Server to supply the options.
Once the phone's Main Load has been erased there are no options you can set on the phone.

Without a controller you could try DHCP Option 43.

Many thanks for that, just setting up a MS Server on Vmware and setup a local DHCP role in order to supply the options.

zedraz,

You don't need to go through all of that unless you just want to. Go download TFTPD32 or 64 and use the TFTP and DHCP servers in that to get your phone working; I use it all the time as a fast easy setup.

Thanks,

TE

I must admit TFTPD is my preferred TFTP Server although I haven't used the DHCP part of it as I normally already have a DHCP server on the network and just modify the existing.

Thanks for saving me so much time, Ditched Vmware to Tftpd64.

Have setup Tftpd64 with Tftp server, client and also DHCP server.
DHCP server is working as its allocating IP addresses for other devices on the network but not for the phone (08:00:0F:A8:0D:C9)

Log repeats this:

Rcvd DHCP Discover Msg for IP 0.0.0.0, Mac 08:00:0F:A8:0D:C9 [02/06 14:19:03.169]
DHCP: proposed address 192.168.1.2 [02/06 14:19:06.292]

I seems as though the IP is not allocated, cant browse to that IP or use Tftp client to upload anything.

I have attached screenshots of all the settings. I must be missing something.
Can you please point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

Maybe try Additional Option as 129 and put the IP of your TFTPD in there.

Hopefully it is enough to download the firmware.

Tried that and even without setting an option but its just not picking up an IP address.
Keeps showing the message

"DHCP: Proposed address 192.168.1.12...."

Can't believe I've spent all weekend on this... >:(

Yes, I have been wasting some time on this as well. Trying to use TFTPD64 as a DHCP as well as some others.
Trying Option 43, 125 or 66

As soon as I place the phone on a network with a 3300 it fires up and downloads the Main Load OK.

With no Main Load I can't get it to download FW on third party dhcp servers, I'm going to try and do some packet captures when I get a chance to see if I can get any further.

I'll update if I find something useful.

This has me wondering. Might the default use the 20001 port for tftp? I find it hard to think only connecting to a controller dhcp to restores it is a requirement

I did try port 20001 as well.

I haven't had a lot of time to test but I did get firmware loaded on to a 5320e using option 43. It did not work on a non 'e' though when testing.
