No IP from DHCP
« on: March 12, 2018, 11:07:56 AM »
Hi friends,

I am programming an Mitel 5000. The customer wants to lease ip for the Mitel on his DHCP server.
He is using Vlan 20. I gave him the followinfg options so he can program the DHCP Scope on his side.
Options are:

Options43: id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=172.21.20.100;call_serv=172.21.20.100;vlan=20;l2p=6;dscp=46
Options125: id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=172.21.20.100;call_serv=172.21.20.100;vlan=20;l2p=6;dscp=46
Option3:
IP: 172.21.20.254
Option 128:
IP: 172.21.20.100
Option 129:
IP: 172.21.20.100

Customer has these options programmed in their switch but the ip phones are not gettng ip addresses. I activate the DHCP on the Mitel 500 with these optiones and the phones are getting ip from the DHCP of the Mitel 5000.
Does the customer need to program extra option in their dhcp ?

Please advise.

Generally you would only use one option... either 43, 125, or 128+, not all three.

That said, the option is pretty straight forward to define. What is the phone showing in the display when the failure occurs?

I am not familiar with programming options in Meraki switches, we never do it that way, but we do put Option 43 in Meraki routers from time to time with no issues. That said, we prefer to have the 5000 hand out DHCP for a dedicated voice VLAN.

When we do DHCP for phones, assuming they are using DHCP to move the phones to the voice VLAN, we only device l2p and dscp in the data VLAN.

VLAN1: Options43: id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=172.21.20.100;call_serv=172.21.20.100;vlan=20;l2p=6;dscp=46

Phones gets DHCP, then releases IP and moved to VLAN20 and requests DHCP

VLAN20: Options43: id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=172.21.20.100;call_serv=172.21.20.100

The reason for this is some phone firmware versions will bootloop if the current and vlan tag are already the same. Priority and DSCP are remembered from original offer.

Maybe he's forgotten to configure an IP helper address on his Layer3 switch?

Hi there Mitel freinds.
I used only the option 125 on the meraki switch and it works.
Thanks for the advise.
