Mitel 3300 Power Outage and now settings missing
« on: March 06, 2018, 03:18:54 PM »
We had a power outage for 8 hours.
Once the power was restored the Mitel booted with no alarms but all the Exts are requesting to be registered.

Logged into the Mitel system to all all information is missing.

The systems kept the IP address and user accounts but everything else seems to be missing

We have a maintenance contract but the provider doesn't want to know about it, looks like they didn't setup a backup to run!

Is there anyway of bring the database online?

My first thought would be to restore the most recent backup, but that sounds like it isn't an option unfortunately...

My next thought would be tech support, maybe there is a way to recover it directly from the hard drive, but it sounds like the intialize DB flag was set, which cleared the database on the next reboot... whether purposely or accidentally, or there was corruption of the hard drive it may be unrecoverable but only support could verify it.

Used to get this with SSD drives dying and some of the early ssd's did it randomly. Have you tried another reboot? Otherwise I reckon its goosed unless you have a backup to restore. I think I would be into the maintenance contract providers ribs over this big style. Do a clean restart from the maintenance console just to see.

Thanks for the replies, don't think the service provider dare answer my calls.

When you say clean restart, please can you confirm which command to do this?

Unless you provided the installer with ftp details of the server you wanted backups sent to, there wouldn't have been any point them setting up "a backup to run" because it wouldn't have had anywhere to go.

Local backup does not need FTP of course. Yes there could be issues but any decent maintainer should know all the wrinkles and even if its an old one a backup should be part of any maintainers standard practice to take especially after changes.

Try to connect to you Ipbx by FTP ( i use filezilla) .

Then go to : vmail/temp/db/archive/  you will find Ipera3k.dba --> rename it to backup.tar.

try a new restore.

Thanks All.

I have setup the backup to run weekly to an ftp myself now.

System up and running now.

Didn't get chance to try FTP and rename the file but thanks for the tip!

Offering support doesn't mean you are the maintainer unless it is a managed service. Whoever maintains it could take a local backup on an ad-hoc basis, but a backup schedule is the best way to go. Many clients are hopeless when you ask them how they intend to do backups, so I often take ad-hoc backups and file them away for a rainy day.

OP said 'maintenance contract' so that is what I assumed rather than a 'support contract' which as you point out can mean other things.

mcmoreton.....how did you get the system up and running?

I am 99% sure that in the UK, a "maintenance contract" is going to mean a support contract and involves break/fix and patching, not a managed service.
The reason I weighed in on this is because the OP was pointing the finger in a situation where it *really* didn't sound like he was justified in doing so.

No a 'maintenance contract' is just that in the UK. It will be written to set out what is and isn't covered and some of it will be implied as part of the law. I, for instance, gave a support contract for my clients and backed that up with a maintenance contract from a third party supplier of the same. It was my responsibility to take random backups or do one after any change I made under support. However part of the maintenance contract with the third party was that I would do that.

Now it may be that the OP has  different outlook (as you seem to) but it is simply down to what the contractees agree to. I would expect a maintenance contract here in the UK to include backups at least when changes were made and certainly at installation. But it does depend on what the contract says and we don't know that so to make assumptions is wrong on both our parts.

YMMV
