iPocket232 is female DCE... what is PMS Octopus Cable? If it is male DTE then just a DB9M to DM25F, if it's DCE then you need you will need a null modem as well. Most PMS equipment has DM25M DTE ports.

Longer term, what PMS software are you running? Everybody seems tor recommend those iPocket devices, but every time I look at one I just see a whole string of failure points.

We recently changes PMS systems and ended up moving to IP instead of serial.

FWIW it is always the PMS. The iPocket will work as programmmed. Yes if able to do direct ip, that could be better, but then again if there is an issue it is the PMS most likely.

Generally speaking yes, but not always.

DCE = Data Communications Equipment (server/equipment/host side, "service" you are connecting to) Typically female
DTE = Date Terminal Equipment (terminal, or "computer" side) Typically male

DCE and DTE do not refer directly to male or female, and in some cases it is the opposite of what you think.

Just remember DCE-DTE connections do not require a null modem adapter/cable, DCE-DCE or DTE-DTE connections do require one.

^^^ This... Assuming there isn't connectivity issues to the iPocket/serial port itself, if there are PMS issues, it is ALWAYS on the PMS system side. Since the release of the SX-200 ICP around 2000 or so, I have installed several hundred of the iPocket232 units, literally, and I have never seen a single one fail (a couple power supplies have failed though, out of hundreds).  The iPocket devices just work, never seen one lose it's config or connection without outside influences, and Mitel is one of the originators of the PMS interface, it is rock solid on that end too.

There is a PMS Emulator program available from Mitel, all I do anymore if a site insists that the problem is on our end, is go out there with a laptop, disconnect the serial cable from the PMS server, connect it to the laptop with the PMS emulator app, and prove it works, which it always does, show the customer, reconnect the cable and tell them to call their PMS vendor.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, I literally just went through this and was venting just a little. :)  Whew... I feel better now.

Hi acejavelin,

So if iPocket is DB 9 Female and PMS (Opera) cable is DB25 Male, is that mean I just need straight through cable?

Thanks

To Opera... Hmm... I thought they usually used a standard Digi EdgePort device (which has 9-pin male connectors)

Regardless, I can't say 100% for sure, but the odds are pretty good that a straight through 9M-25F cable will work fine.

Google is your friend here... https://www.lammertbies.nl/comm/cable/RS-232.html

But I would just order them pre-made from Newegg or a similar supplier.

The PMS server and iPocket/phone equipment is located in different floor, thats why I need to pinout to make the adaptors.

Run a network cable to the PMS server and connect the iPocket there, if you have multiple ones put in a small switch... Output from the iPocket's won't get much beyond 60 feet or about 20 meters on the RS232 side on really good cable, even less on old 25 pair or pre-CAT grade cable. We also run them on Phybridge/Steamline all the time too if that is a concern.

Your call, but I am trying to save you some heartache down the road.
