Restore from Backup
« on: December 19, 2017, 12:18:50 PM »
Hi,

I'm trying to restore a database from a backup  I ran earlier this year, I went to maintenance, system, database, restore, Kermit, and it started the process but I'm not sure where it's restoring from since there was no option  to locate the file, at the end I got (File Aborted). how do I go about locating the file I want to be restored.

Thank you.

You have to manually start the Kermit Send protocol from your terminal software, the process varies depending on which terminal program you are using. In Tera Term you select File, Send, Kermit, and select the file.

Hi acejavelin,

Im using Procomm, so I went to Data, Kermit commands, send file, and selected the file then I went to maintenance to run the restoration process but again I got (File Abort #6) not sure why I keep getting this error, any thoughts?

Thanks.

Seems to me you have to start the "receive" process on the controller first, then start the send process.

I haven't done it this way in a long time, FTP is the way to go... I bet it has been 10 years since I did a Kermit restore on a 200.

Procomm and Kermit do not work above XP from what I've seen. FWIW might try something else.

Tera Term Pro is the only thing I use anymore on Windows... https://osdn.net/projects/ttssh2/

But seriously... load up FileZilla and use FTP, it is so much faster and more reliable.

Thank you for the info. when I first took my backup I used Kermit (maintenance, system, backup, Kermit) not ftp (maintenance, system, backup, FTP_Backup)  and I saved it to my network drive. is it still going to work if I use ftp restore for a kermit file backup? or does it have to be a db file backup?

You are really digging deep into the fathoms of yesterday of my mind... I think it should work, the backup transport should not be relevant.

Tera Term should be able to restore the file, or else try it the old fashioned way with Kermit 95 (it's old, but still works).

I ended up taking another backup using full ftp backup and used ftp again to upload it to the other controller.

Thank you for your help.

The kermit file will not contain voice mail if from what I gather is a 200ICP. You can use the Kermit file and upload it via ftp as a valid restore. I think this was the method to upgrade from 200ML/EL to ICP
