Caller ID To Fax Server
« on: August 24, 2017, 03:49:06 PM »
I have a Fax server connected to a 3300 via two SIP Trunks. Incoming calls are over PRI. Everything is working except the caller ID Shows as the fax extension on the 3300 instead of the inbound Caller ID. What am I forgetting to fill in?

If you do a packet capture, is the information in the setup message?

Great question, I have not done that between the 3300 and server.

ZuluAlpha,

I am confused as to why you would want to see the Inbound Caller ID instead of the Called ID [extension] for inbound routing within your Fax Server. Most of the time you would setup the fax server in the follow way.

1. Inbound Call to Phantom Extension
2. Phantom Extension Forward Always to Fax Server Hunt Group
3. Fax Server Hunt Group configured as Voice Mail Hunt Group [This will send the Phantom Extension to the Fax Server]
4. Fax Server gets call from Phantom Extension and routes accordingly.

Typically you wouldn't care what fax machine is calling your fax server.

Thanks,

TE

Caller ID should can still be presented and and logged in this scenario, we have several analog fax servers that do it, SIP ones should be no different... it just puts the info in the email though, in the fax itself it still just shows the presentation number that is sent by the far end machine.

Acejavelin,

I agree that it should be sending the Caller ID in the From portion of the setup message, but it isn't used for routing the call within the Fax Server; maybe I am misunderstanding what is asked.

Thanks,

TE

Yeah, I just re-read the original question and I am not sure exactly what is being asked now.

@ZuluAlpha can you clarify the question please?

Sip trunk connected, can't say if it is forwarded phantoms. Might try ars digits dialed to get it to the correct user

For clarity:

- Incoming calls hit MCD 3300 from PSTN via PRI's.
- Calls are routed to a SIP fax server (extension 8000).
- Caller ID Says the call is from extension 8000 instead of the number from PSTN.

Set up looks like this:
ARS Digits Dialed 8000 Terminates to ARS Route 14
ARS Route 14 goes to the SIP Peer Proile (SIPFAX), the routing medium is set to SIP Trunk

Ideally I would like the caller ID from the PSTN to be presented to the fax server. Currently it interprets caller ID as coming from extension 8000 so all faxes look like they're from the same number.

Is "Public Calling Party Number Passthrough" set to yes on the SIP Peer

ZuluAlpha,

So, if you are not routing calls within the SIP Server via the route it comes in and all you want to do is see the Caller ID of the incoming call then I believe that Sarond is on the right track.

Trunks / SIP / SIP Peer Profile / Calling Line ID: Public Calling Party Number Passthrough and Use Original Calling Party Number If Available

Thanks,

TE
