Volumio On Raspberry Pi
« on: December 08, 2021, 07:58:32 AM »
Not telephony related but a lot of fun.

Last night I discovered Volumio.  It allows me to play hundreds of internet radio stations through my stereo using a Raspberry Pi.
I downloaded the image for the Pi and it boots up without having to config anything.  I control it from my cell phone. Although it streams at 128k my audio would be better if I had a DAC for it. If you're into audio, this is a neat little project.

The price for the Raspberry Pi has certainly gone up.  You used to be able to get them for ~$35US.  Now I see them for over $100 for a 4 core 8 gig model.  That's kind of a bummer because I love playing with these things. I'd love to get a couple more.

That's awesome - how do you connect the Pi to your stereo system?

At the moment it's just using an audio cable from the output of the Pi to an adapter that splits it into RCA connectors.  If I get a DAC for it, it will just use RCA cables.
