Headset question for the MiVoice 250
« on: December 02, 2019, 10:10:42 AM »
Client is looking to get cordless headsets.
They have 8528 sets.
The cordless headsets cannot have a headset lifter as some of the phones are wall mounted so launching handsets odd the phones i not a good idea.
I looked at the Plantronics options, but the cordless options need a lifter.
Has anyone ran into this issue or might someone have an idea of where to look for a headset?
Or give up the ghost and tell the client no?
Thanks for any information you can provide!

Tripoth,

Why don't you put the phone in headset mode and give them a headset key [Default: 317]. That way if you buy a headset with an answer within the headset itself it will work without putting it inline with the handset; actually the hook-switch will be disabled when the headset mode is on. Don't forget to plug into the headset port in the back instead of the handset port in the back of the phone.

Thanks,

TE

OK, so program the headset button on the phone and make sure we get a cordless headset that can pick up and hang up a call? So we are looking for an inline cordless headset? Have you used a particular model like this in the past?

Can you keep the call in continuous headset mode or would you have to activate the headset on/off button continuously to answer the call?

Seems like a silly question, but our distributor said we would have to keep turning the headset answer mode on/off in order to pick up the calls on the headset.

Tripoth,

It depends on the Headset that you get on how you have to operate it so there is no one straight answer. We only deal with Plantronics headsets, but I am sure you can find less expensive equipment out there.

The Headset enable code [315] signals the system that a headset has been connected to the phone. The Headset disable code [316] returns the phone to normal operation. The on/off feature code [317] can be used to toggle the feature on or off.

So, with the headset mode turned on the phone [317] or [315] then use the headset port on the back of the phone to plug your headset device into. IF your headset device is setup to answer through it then it will work as expected; if it doesn't then you may have to change your setup.

Thanks,

TE

Is there a particular model you have used in the past that has functioned in this manner from Plantronics?

TE:

Are you saying you have a way to get Platronics Headsets to answer from the headset itself without a lifter?  If so. please let me know, as we have never been able to as it is my understanding that the 5300/8500 series phones don't support EHS.    We always program a Headset toggle but they the use has to use the Speaker Key to answer and hang up.

Would be a game changer as the Integrated Headsets are few and far between for the 5300s.
