The Mitel - Polycom Deal is Dead
« on: July 08, 2016, 01:36:17 PM »
Some else made a better offer to buy Polycom for $2Billion US.
Polycom will now pay $60Million US to terminate the deal that was already agreed to.

Here's the announcement from Mitel.
http://investor.mitel.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=978685

I believe the original deal was pushed for by a Major Mitel stock holder.
I was never quite sure if I liked the arrangement.  Something just didn't ~feel~ right (even though I've no idea what it was).

In any case, the deal is now over.

So... Who is buying Polycom, any idea? Too bad, I really like Polycom devices and would much rather see them "in the family" rather than Aastra...

An investment group called Siris.
I don't know anything about them.

Yes, I'd rather use the speaker on a PolyCom desk phone on my diy home asterisk system than the headset or the headphone jack on any other generic sip phone. Just love the sound quality.

Yep, great devices and their sound quality I had always thought was great! Though Polycom's documentation left a lot to be desired. (Try reading up on how to do firmware updates - for those who have never done one) Hope the new company will keep up such a great product though!

Having stated earlier about having to do an upgrade, I thought I'd share a link to a document I created for my fellow colleagues on one way how to, "Upgrade Polycom Firmware". http://mitelforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=8661.0

Thanks,

Agree that Polycomm documenation sucks. Used to having to make a change, save and reboot before doing another for changes to stick.

Frankly Mitel's documentation isn't all that great either. Way too often I find myself still running back to the SX-2000 manuals or I learn stuff from tech support that really should be documented.
