Getting digital breakups on external incoming calls?

I am Getting digital breakups on external incoming calls, someone told me that the channels needed to be switched, but then did not know how to do it, can someone give me some direction on this issue?

What kind of trunks do you have? PRI? Copper?
Is there more than one controller involved?
Are you having issues with internal calls?
If you only have one controller and not having issues with internal calls then I would suspect that you need to call your carrier.
I don't have any idea what it means to switch channels.

I've seen this symptom on carrier switch type mis-matches for PRI. Calls worked, but quality was horrible...

I'm under the assumption that you're talking about incoming calls from a PRI circuit to IP phones. If it is the case then..
I've also seen this problem, and it was because the IP access list on the router was not set correctly. So any traffic coming into the IPs of the phone were not tagged as voice traffic.
