two extensions to act as one
« on: March 12, 2014, 10:14:19 AM »
Hi Gang,
I have a user who works at two offices across the street from each other on alternate days, say extensions 200 and 600.
200 has a NuPoint VM, 600 does not. We want them both to ring if either are called, and have VM go to 200 (if 600 is called). Obviously when 200 is called, it goes to the VM as expected, but 600 just rings out.

We'd like to figure out how to get both to essentially act as one. We can't use a hotdesk user because of tenanting and various ring/pickup groups, paging and EMS for each location. (I wish it were that simple!)

I have a multiline appearance on each for the other, so the ring issue is largely solved, but I'm wondering the best way to have calls made to 600 end up at the NuPoint VM box for 200, and in a perfect world, both WMI would be lit if 200 has a message. (We already have a WMI on a button at 600, but I'd like to see the real WMI working on that extension)

Can 600 be added as a second phone on the NuPoint box for 200? If I do a reroute alternate from 600 to NuPoint, I assume NuPoint won't know it's supposed to go to 200.

I'm sure there are various creative ways to deal with this, so I'm interested to hear some opinions.

Thanks for your input,
-dg

Forward 600 to the NuPoint via the System Rerouting form.
Then in the NuPoint edit mailbox 200 and add 600 as an alternate extension.
Then add a MWI key for 200 on extension 600.

Sounds like you need a "personal ring group" (PRG)

Thanks Ralph. That works. Turns out I had already added 600 as an alternate, so we're good there. No way to have the "big" MWI show on 600 for a VM in 200?

Thanks again,

Thank you. I had played with this idea as well, but was afraid of having two personal ring groups pointing at each other. We like the appearance a bit better since he can see what's ringing. I may actually change that to a ringing DSS instead of an appearance, but either way, these all work.

Thanks again,

There is but it's pretty tricky.   I don't have a how to on this and I'd have to lean on the NuPoint techs for the details, but it involves using a "Broadcast MWI".   You may want to post the question on the applications section to get the details.
