email voice mail not working since v6 upgrade... Mitel 5000

No one has noticed, but our email voice mail has not been functioning since we upgrade our 5000 to v6.

Not sure if there was any change in v6 to the voicemail to email, or if this is just coincidental.

We had it set up so that the voicemail would go direct to email, not email and phone...just email.

I went back into to look at the setting and they appear ok, but I'm looking for some advice as to what the cause could be.

My setting that worked look like...


We have a local MS Exchange server, the local address matches what is shown.

Again, it did work before as shown...but since V6, it does not seem to.

Looking forward to any suggestions.

This is only your Mailbox settings, and actually has nothing to do with sending mail messages... Did you verify your settings in the Email Gateway section, check the logs for the VM and email service in the admin web console?

that would be in the DB programming
system --> e-mail gateway.
there are a few email related setting that need to be set correctly

you mentioned that you have an MS Exchange server, and the email in your screen shot is @Hotmail. by default exchange does not allow for relaying.  you should check your receive connectors to verify that they can accept and send email from the mitel5000 ip, from email and to the to email address.

after that I would look at all the lovely anti-spam/virus software/settings to is if any of those are dropping the emails

Can't seem to find it under System.  Am i blind?

Sorry, it was me just being silly as I did not want to put the exchange server name or domain.  Hotmail was just for the screenshot :-)

It has worked in the past, so what ever happened in V6, perhaps it changed how the voicemail to email works?

Still no luck.  I'm now in here, but have no clue what is needed for settings.

I do know my mail server address and the rest, but I've tried various settings to no avail.

Its an exchange server, and I do remember that with SSL off in the settings, we were able to make it work.  With SSL on, we were not.


settings>email gateway


Voice Processor>Devices>Mailboxes>email sync.

With all the red x's beside the email sync., would I only need to fill in the email address for voice mail?  Would the Settings>email gateway settings pick up the rest?

The red x's are there because you are not using integration you are using forwarding.
system/email gateway is where it should pick up the info from.
Make sure that SMTP Server is a name not an IP address, this will also mean that you DNS setting have to be correct.

I'm confused. Your vendor was in your system but didn't set this up?

Mitel created a document for exactly your issue which I have attached.

Not having an SMTP server name configured is the most obvious issue I can see though!

Yes, at a bare minimum with embedded UVM using SMTP/Anonymous Relay, you need Administrator Email Address (this is the From/Reply to address used) and Email SMTP Server defined and Email System set to SMTP. Press F1/Help on this screen for more information.

Starting in v6.0 software for the Mitel 5000 the Exim library has been updated to be more secure. Due to this change in software, authentication is required for the email gateway to correctly connect to the exchange server to send emails now.
