10 digit dialing required?
« on: November 08, 2012, 06:01:28 PM »
We just got a new Mitel 5000 installed with a PRI connection. The installer says that all calls must be placed using 10-digit dialing, whether local or long-distance. The previous system (Toshiba) did not require 10-digits for local calls, and it also used the same PRI. Is there a way to program this so my users stop complaining?

Does your physical location have an area code overlay?

In other word on a CO line, do you have to dial the area code for a local call?

POTS lines here do not require 10-digit dialing, unless its "long distance" then you have to actually dial 11-digits.

Access the CO Trunk Group for the PRI directly and try making your 7 digit local call.  This will bypass all ARS.

If your call is successful then the answer to your original question is yes.  Report back what you find and we can go from there.

You can definitely dial local numbers with just 7 digits on the 5000, you've also confirmed that you could do it on the same PRI that you had connected to your last system.

Why your installer has it setup so you have to dial 10 digits is a bit of a mystery!

If you dial a 9 or press outgoing then dial just the local number what happens?

The dialer hears be-ep, be-ep, be-ep. Like a busy signal, just with beeps instead of buzzes.  :D

You get this when you just dial 8+/Outgoing+7-Digits or do you get his when you dial the trunk group extension number + 7-digits? What does the display of the phone show?

Not sure what your programming is like, but your technician may have missed a few things. Check these areas and fix what you can. If that is all correct then I may have a few questions for you and a test or two.

Go to System > Numbering Plan > Area Flags

Office Codes Used as Area Codes: Yes
Area Codes Used as Office Codes: Yes
Local 7/10 Digit Dialing: Yes
Toll Digit Allowed on Toll Local Calls: No
Toll Digit Required on Toll Long Distance: No

Also Check to make sure your Home Area Codes are set up Correctly.

Go to System > Numbering Plan > Home Area Codes

If you are having issues with the system dialing directly from Call Logs list then make sure you move your Area Codes within User Groups to the first Group. You do this by Pulling them from Restricted Area Codes.

Go to System > Numbering Plan > User Groups > Allowed Area Codes

Take Care,

Steven
