Add phone licenses?
« on: June 11, 2025, 04:26:29 PM »
Is there a way to add more phone licenses to a 250 since Mitel has stopped selling licenses? Or some sort of workaround?

I'm trying to hook up a new phone (5330) to our 250 and am getting the message "license error endpoint" on the phone. I can unplug a different phone and hook up/set up the new one but when I connect the phone I unplugged it gives the same error.

herpderp,

You would have to contact the vendor who has the ARID with Mitel for your system and see if they have a Category D license to assign to it in their license bank.

If not, then there isn't a legal way to add a phone without a license without having your system reboot every 4 hours, not recommended.

Thanks,

TE

I did talk to the company that put it in, they said the licenses aren't available anymore.  :(

We only need this to work for a few weeks, what are other companies in this situation doing?

There is really nothing you can do... We had a couple customers who used the analog ports with analog ports, or swapped out rarely used phones with analog devices and repurposed the IP devices... We had a few SIP licenses and got some Yealink SIP phones working for another customer... Not much you can do as those licenses haven't been available for quite a while.

Most people who expect any growth at all are just migrating to something new, usually a hosted product.

herpderp,

Personally, I would get rid of a common area phone or a phone that isn't used often if it is for the short-term.

As for what other companies do I can't say, but Tech had purchased extra Category D licenses for our license bank just for this purpose in case our customer base needed them.

As for everything else there isn't much you can do as acejavelin stated.

I suggest either moving to a new vendor or asking your current one for alternative system options if you want to stay with them.

Sorry,

TE

Thanks for the info everyone. We have a few 250's that are all linked back to the central one (fiber between buildings), are licenses pooled between them or does each 250 have a set number of licenses? Could I unplug a phone connected to a different 250 to get one working on a different 250?

herpderp,

Each system has its own licensing associated with it and they do not share between each other.

That said you can make a phone a teleworker phone and have its base at a different location if you have available licenses there.

Thanks,

TE
