New IP Phone not able to upgrade
« on: April 13, 2021, 05:06:28 AM »
Hi!

I am pretty new to this world and I am dealing with a little problem.

We have a Mitel 430 (Release 6.1) and trying to configure a brand new Mitel 6930. I was expecting it to be pretty straitforward. We have some other Mitel 6930 in the network, a license in the system is available... it should be just plug and play.

But it isn't. The Telephone get an IP but after "Software version..." ist not able to upgrade the system and prompt a list letting me select:
-Mitel MiCloud
-Mitel MiVoice Connect
-...

If I don't insert any IP: it tries to conect 0.0.0.0.
If I insert the IP from our System tries it without success.

In the same Lan Port an already configured Phone works normal.

I know it is a vague description, but I have no Idea were to start troubleshooting this.

Any suggestions about what could I test?

Looks like it came with MiNet firmware. You need to convert it to SIP firmware. Use TFTP or FTP. The phone should grab the SIP firmware and then you can use it with the 400.

I've been searching for new information about the SIP conversion, and I have found out, that it shouldn't be necessary, because the newer revisions should be able to connect with both systems. (https://support.televersal.com/hc/nl/article_attachments/115013827323/6900_SIP_Firmware_Upgrade_FAQ.pdf)

I am guessing that the Phone is not able to find the proper System and therefore booting as MiNet.

Am I wrong?

I am not sure what you mean connect to both systems... it CAN read both firmware and will look for a MiNET one first, if not found from the FW server, it will look for a SIP firmware and use that.

What I can tell you is that the MiVO 400 requires a Mitel SIP Phone with SIP FW, not MiNET. I don't think that has changed.

I can send you a guide how we do it with the older batch of phones we had before if you need it.

I was able to solve the Problem thanks to bojo387 helps!

The 430 was pointing at a wrong address for the Firmware for 'Mitel 6700/6800 SIP' under Configuration>IP Network>Mitel server, were it also look for the FW for the 6930. Not being able to find a proper FW started the Telephone in this "MiNET" modus.

I changed the address and the Telephone did catch the FW douring next reboot.

I want to thank bojo387 again!
