Manual Night Mode vs Auto Night mode - Manual wins ?
« on: December 23, 2016, 05:47:06 AM »
Hi all,
On our Mitel 250 controller, I have "Auto Night Mode" enabled...
IE:  Mon-Thurs, at 09:00 - Night Mode Turns OFF, and at 16:59, it Turns ON... (or the other way round, whichever it is! :D :D )
Works ok which is cool...

What I need to know is, if I press the "Night Mode" button on the main Reception phone, does that override Any auto settings ?
IE:  We press NIGHT MODE at 12pm today, and then when we come back to the office on Tuesday 3rd Jan, we press NIGHT MODE again to enable the phone system to take calls, and then our Auto Night Mode should start as normal at 17:00

Just need to know that if you press the NIGHT MODE Button, it overrides any Auto setting ?  as wouldn't want the phone system springing into life on Monday when no one is here!!

There is no “auto night mode” on the system. Day/night mode can only be switched manually via an administrator phone.

A STAR application can be used to route incoming calls based on date/day/time criteria, but the system says in day mode. Any station forward paths will continue to follow the day routing.

The day ring-in destination can be to a STAR application for “automatic” routing, and a different night ring-in destination defined for “manual” routing.

Didn't know there was an AUTO NIGHT MODE...is that new?  Or are you using an external app like Xarios to do it?  We've always controlled scheduled call routing using a STAR APPLICATION in voice mail, which typically contains daily schedule and holidays.  It doesn't actually put the system in night mode: trunk access, recordings etc. don't change.  If you're using a STAR, then yes a manual night mode selection will change it IF YOU HAVE THE CORRECT NIGHT DESTINATION IN THE CO TRUNK GROUP.  Often programmers set the STAR as both day and night destination for the trunk group, and if that''s the case nothing will change in night mode.

StuartUK,

As you probably realized the clear delineation of Day/Night Mode and Scheduled Time-Based Application Router (STAR) is a point that most programmers try to drive home.

Day/Night Mode changes how calls are routed based on a manual change via a Night Ring button being pressed. This is the true Day and Night that most people are expecting from a phone system.

Scheduled Time-Based Application Routers work off of a different premise and that is to change how calls are routed by the time/date/day as programmed in one of twenty different routing schedules.

Now, STARs actually do work well with the Day/Night Mode of the system and they can perform the function you are looking to have happen, but by default this is not how it works. You will need to bring in a Mitel certified technician to program all the scenarios that you want to work for the STAR in both the Day and Night mode conditions.

So, to answer you question pressing the Night mode button on the receptionist phone can override auto settings, but it depends on how it was originally programmed on what would actually happen; most likely it would work the same except in a few instances.

Thanks,

TE

Hi all,
Cheers for the replies (been off work since I posted this, holiday leave)...
Sorry, Day/Night mode = stuies Auto Night mode! (choice of wording!  :P   )

and yes, pressing the Night mode button on the reception phone (5340) overrides the STAR commands that determine when to be in Day/Night mode :)
