No audio on Calls Between Sites
« on: May 22, 2008, 07:39:04 PM »
I am having an interesting issue I have a 9 site WAN,  4 of my sites are small enough so they do not warrant a Mitel 3300 ICP.  They home back to the HQ LAN on VLAN 2.  They are given IP address in a subnet local to the HQ LAN.  The other sites have local 3300s.  Two of the sites that home back to the HQ are unable to call each other on their internal extensions.  When they call the tcp connection is established and the other line picks up but no audio is passed.  each site can extension dial any other site.  I am doing no firewalling of traffic to and from the 2 (problem) sites.  It is odd because both sites are using the same subnet range served through DHCP on the same HQ Controller.  Any ideas on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my stab at it.
The phones are talking to the 3300 ok.
When a call is made, the phone is actually setting the call up through the 3300.  The 3300 signals the other phone to ring and then drops out after the call is established.   The phones then talk to each other - not through the 3300.  ( I'm talking strictly IP phones here.)

I suspect the problem is that the phone are blocked from talking to each other for some reason.  Most likely an IP routing issue.

So here is what I would need to know:
(1) the IP, subnet mask and gateway of the 3300
(2) the IP, subnet mask and gateway of thephones for both sites

So, check these things and I would suspect you'll find the problem there.

Hi Ralph
Here is the detail the remote sites that cannot communicate are running Adtran Netvanta 1224STRs connected over a 1.5 Metro Ethernet circuit.   The IP Address of site A is 10.6.0.1/16 VLAN 1006 (Data) VLAN 2 (No IP address) the uplink port is a trunk port.  The far side of the wan link is a Procurve trunk port tagged VLAN 2 (Ip Adress of VLAN 10.55.0.2/16. (DHCP address for phones are (10.55.4.10 -250/16) Tagged VLAN 1006 ip of VLAN 10.6.0.3/16.  The Mitel 3300 ICP is IP Address 10.55.4.1/16 default gateway 10.55.0.2/16.

The IP address of Site B is 10.2.0.1/16 VLAN 1002 (Data) VLAN 2 (no ip address) trunk uplink port to Metro E.  The Wan link terminates to B23 Procurve same port as Site A tagged for VLAN 1002 (Data) IP address 10.2.0.3/16 VLAN 2 (Voice) 10.55.0.2/16.  The phones come up with a DHCP addresses from the 10.55.4.1 controller in the 10.55.4.x/16 subnet.  All layer 2.  Two other sites 10.5.0.1/16 (Site C) and 10.18.01/16 (Site D) are configured and home back to 10.55.4.1 each site can readily communicate with Site A and Site B bidrectionally.   If UDP is blocked on Site A and or B how is it able to communicate with C & D?

Hi, Audio issues on 3300 are always due to the Gateway address in the 3300 DHCP options, either wrong or missing. Check to make sure that the Gateways of all the 3300's are programmed using option 3.

You may find that this will fix your problem.
