Looking for 5220 firmwares
« on: October 15, 2013, 11:46:53 AM »
I had asked about this here:
http://mitelforums.com/forum/index.php/topic,4382.0.html
and been directed to this subforum.

So does anyone have the old firmware for the 5220? I need revisions 2, 3, and 6.

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

I really don't see that you would need incremental updates

On the page here: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Mitel+SIP+Firmware
It says "In general it is important to upgrade older firmware in sequence - eg: v3 -> V4 -> V5 -> V6 etc. without skipping any releases. Failure to do this (eg: upgrading from V3 directly to V6) may brick the phone."

And the release docs from Mitel for 7.2 say
"If you are running Rel 3 software, you will need to upgrade to Rel 4 prior to going to 5.0.0.21.  It is strongly recommended not to upgrade through the GUI. Only the Boot (Set) upgrade should be performed if your are running software lower than 6.0.0.19.

For all SIP Phone types running any software previous to Rel 7.2, this includes Rel 3.0, Rel 3.1, Rel 4.0, Rel 5.0 MUST upgrade to Rel 5.0.0.21 prior to upgrading to Rel 7.2.
Rel 5.0.0.21 is required as a stepping point up to Rel 7.2.   Any other method of upgrade could result in corrupted Flash Memory on the SIP Phone resulting in a permanently dead phone."

The first bit of that is red.
Got the release notes, and revisions 4,5,7 from here: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24892334/mitel_firmware.zip
No idea who uploaded that.

But yeah, that's why I'm assuming incremental updates.
Sounds like I can skip 6 though. But no mention of anything previous to 3, when I'm on 1. So I want 2 and 3 at the least, and would prefer 6.

There are different requirements for Mitel. The Mitel has to do with clustering functionality

I'm sorry, I have no idea what you mean by that.
Different requirements for mitel than what? I've been talking about mitel phones...
And I have no idea why clusters are related to this.

I'm sorry if I'm just being dumb here, but I can't figure out what you could be meaning.

I tried updating one of the phones to revision 4, and the firmware didn't update, but now the boot version displays correctly. It got to 86 percent downloaded, said something about unknown filetype, and then rebooted.

This of course refers to the main software load on the system NOT the load on the phone. The phone will be at whatever level it was at when last used on the system they were taken from and its SIP level will be at that assuming it was a level with SIP support for dual mode phones.

But all of the instructions near those warnings are for updating individual phones.
http://76.119.121.122/files/7.2%20Release%20Notes.doc
Sorry about the lack of domain name, I had shut it down when I moved to uni, and stopped having a domain name, but someone else needed something on it so it's on till it stops being needed.
Anyway, page 8 has the update instructions.

Not a problem, glad people are looking for ways I might be wrong here, as it looks to me my only hope is that someone has the old firmware archived somewhere and is willing to get it to me.

Oh bloody hell.
I have no idea, I threw out the phones, literally yesterday.
I just put everything I had for the firmware on dropbox.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/49852341/mitel%20firmware.7z

Are you likely to get the firmware I need? Not sure how long I have to go fetch the phones, but if you're going to be trying to find the firmware, I want to keep them around a bit longer.
