Paging through loudspeakers and handsets at the same time
« on: June 22, 2011, 04:06:35 PM »
Our local Fire Marshal is requesting that we come up with a way to make a page able to be heard in all areas.  In our manufacturing and warehouse areas we have loudspeaker paging (using valcom v2006A).  Our office spaces do not have loudspeakers and we are hoping we can figure out a way to page through the loudspeakers and through the phone speakers simultaneously in the event of a site emergency.

We are able to do this in another one of our facilities which has an old phone system (non-Mitel).

Is there a way to do this on the Mitel 3300?   If not, any ideas of ways to do it with additional hardware?

Thanks!
Bill

Yes you can do this with an ip paging unit. Not sure of cost on them but do allow simultaneous paging as well as talk back paging.

[brantn beat me to the submit button :o]
Assuming you have the correct phone types....
You can purchase a IP page adapter.
Add the IP page adapter to the same page zones as the Through the Phones Paging and connect it to the external page system.
Not sure if the Viking will have to be replaced for this or if it can be programming to accept the page directly.

Depending on Viking but I have hooked up several of them for this purpose. Add the IP Paging Unit to the same Page Group as the phones, connect the paging unit to the viking and you are good to go. Also of note you need to setup a dhcp reservation for these units and have them untagged on the phone vlan.

Ok, I have a novel way of doing this by just using an old IP phone. I have used this a couple of times (on different systems) but recently used it on a 3300. All you do is program up an IP phone in the paging group and install it next to the audio input for the amplifier. Next  you open up the phone, snip the two wires that connect to the speaker in the phone and joint them onto a cable that connects into the audio in on the amp.
