MITEL and SSD Drive brands.
« on: December 15, 2020, 07:12:51 AM »
Hello,
Is below text true?
Quote
Mitel has a controller that checks for drive serial number and brand.
When I install MITEL on a drive then it generate special files by SSD serial number and brand?

Thank you.

That is false... You can use an off the shelf drive, the controller doesn't care the brand or model of drive as long as the interface (SATA, or IDE for older controllers) is correct. The technician handbook gives a VxWorks parameter when doing a manual install to write the appropriate partition table.

It is kind of true in RAID configurations, but just to make sure the drives match, not necessarily to screen out certain drives.

Thank you.
In RAID configurations, I can define the specific SSD drive brand? For example, MITEL just work with WD SSD Drive Model X.
How can I change or examine it when system booting?

You can't... When using the RAID controller, the drives must be the exact same drive, that is the only restriction. The RAID on this is purely hardware and requires a proprietary controller. The status of the RAID is checked with maintenance commands or via the lights on the controller, there is no other method.

Basically the drives must be identical... I remember if you had a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 and a drive that matched (size, heads, cylinders, etc. technically a match) and tried to add a Barracude 7200.11 drive, it would fail. The controller just cares that the drives are identical, not that they are a specific brand or model.

Identical?
In your opinion, are my SSD drives identical?

I don't know... All I know is that the drives must have matching criteria from the perspective of the RAID controller, like matching manufacturer and model... Exactly what it is looking for I can't say, but Mitel sells matched drives for the RAID controller. You do not match the content, the controller does that, the physical drives must match and you would use the RAID controller to mirror them.

How can I find a list of matching drives?

I don't understand, you just need two matched drives...

Go to Newegg, Amazon, or your retailer of choice... Add drive to cart, go to cart, change quantity from 1 to 2, and checkout... Bingo! Two matched drives.

I know that there may be some SSD drives that caused issues, but for the most part any should work. Of course Mitel usually supplies Sandisk units
