How to upgrade to newest version?

Hello,

We had our Mitel 5000 CP shipped to us from our corporate office with no instrustions, so pardon my ignorance.  How do we go about upgrading to version 6.1?

You need to do it through a dealer.  Your dealer "owns" the license associated with the device and only he can order license changes.  If you need to find a new local dealer the new dealer can transfer control of your license to themselves.  But Mitel never deals direct with end users.

Are you just upgrading the compact flash? If so, in addition to licensing, you should back up the database and then make a NEW converted file out of the backup using the Conversion utility (found under advanced utilities... if you don't know where advanced utilities are, look in your Settings on the Administration and Diagnostics program). After that you just power the system down, swap the flash and restore the converted database to the new system flash. It's a good idea to back up the voice processor to a USB flash drive too.

^^^ This... you need to contact the dealer who sold it to your company, go through the appropriate channels with your corporate office to get it taken care of, or find a new authorized vendor and get the license record transferred over to them. The licensing on the 5000 is very version specific, although you could easily find the latest version, through it on a flash a key and poke the menus on the front of the controller and get the update to take (depending on your current version), and probably be mostly successful to this point, without the proper license loaded some features may not work and the system will do a forced, hard reset every 240 minutes until the proper license is loaded.

This is not a DIY project. You could easily render the system useless if the upgrade fails.
