Button for VM calls user extension?
« on: August 03, 2015, 01:32:41 PM »
I'm not sure what happened here, but I have a user whose VM button rings a different user.
How can I change this back to the VM service?
All settings appear to be correct.

Is this a call back notification maybe?  If so, how do I clear that?

Thanks!

Dan231,

That is a Message Notification Button not a Voice Mail Button! arrrgh. I know it sounds the same but it drives me crazy when everyone calls it a Voice Mail button. Sorry for going off like that but it is a pet peeve of mine as it causes so much confusion.

To clear the notification they can have the person whose phone it is ringing answer the phone and then hang up or they can press the MSG button and then * to clear the notification.

Thanks,

TE

Thank you for that info.  I'll make a note NOT to call it a voice mail button    ;)

Dan231,

I am sorry if it seemed like I was going off on you in particular, but so many people today had asked me about that button and kept calling it a Voice Mail button.

The issue is that we actually do provide a Voice Mail button on our Keymaps along with the standard Message Notification button. By the end of my day I am pulling my hair out as the steps I am providing them to do stuff didn't work and they all thought I didn't know what I was doing. In the end it was sorted out, but I had to go on site to do it. The bad part was one of our new trainers was calling it the Voice Mail button so I couldn't blame the customer for doing the same.

Sorry,

TE

No biggie, I didn't take it bad at all - All techs run into that.  I have my own pet peeves about naming too.

Hey, follow up question...

How would I go about recreating this on a phone?

How does one set that call me back feature?

Dan321,

Well there are a couple of ways, but the easiest is to press the MSG Notify button when camped on to a phone; I think it works when ringing as well but I have never done that. Also if the user has an "executive" style phone like a 5340 or 5360 then it is an option to leave message.

Thanks,

TE

Awesome - That totally worked!

Is it supposed to auto clear when they call back, or will we have to kill it manually?

Dan231,

Well if the person answers then it will clear the MSG Notification otherwise it will stay until the person answers or the user presses the MSG Notify and then the * key to cancel the message.

Thanks,
