Alternative to using port 443
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:14:16 PM »
Lately have a come across of series of systems where port 443 is being used and therefore is unavailable.  What are the best alternatives for this?

Sorry for my lack of networking knowledge as I suspect this might be a very novice question.

Hard to understand what you desire. You may be able to use another external port and forward it to 443 internally

As John suggest best way is to forward another external port to system on port 443.
Alternatively you change the listening ports in IP Settings of the 5000.

Maybe I can shed a bit more light one to what we are trying to do.

The 5000 is setup to use 443 for the web listing port.  On several systems port 443 is already being used and is therefore unavailable for the 5000.  What this means is we have remote access to DB programming but not the Web Portal.

My thinking was to change the listening port from 443 to ______.  Not having a strong network background I was wondering what other recommend the new port number to be as I am sure others have run into this situation in the past.

Cheers,

It doesn't really matter what port, I normally use 4433.
I think your first choice should be to get their IT company to port forward another external port (e.g.4433) to port 443 of the Mitel.
This way nothing needs to be changed on the 5000. This will depend on the router used though as not all router will let you use different ports, most will though.

I find myself in the same situation as the OP, so I've forward port 665 on the firewall to 443 on the Mitel. This works fine in a web browser, but how do you get SAD to accept it? Entering colons or spaces in the IP address/Hostname box causes it to go red and you can't save or test it. DBP help for where you can change the web listening port is no use. SAD help is no use.

In the connection, there should be a box that allows you to input web listening port

First thing you need to do is enable Show IP Ports in Options/Advanced of SAD.

Then your connections will allow you to specify alternate ports for Web/SSH/DB

Thank you very much. I swear Mitel go out of their way to make this stuff as awkward and counterintuitive as possible!
