Analog trunks to E1 device?
« on: July 31, 2011, 01:02:18 PM »
Hie to you all.
Have a client with a 200 analog trunks & is interested in getting an MXe & having 400 analog stations. The problem is that we are in a part of the world were ISDN PRI is not available so we have to make use of the analog.
Now buying 25 ASUIIs with 4+12 cards just to connect the trunks is not our best option as the cards will use up slots we need to use for 24ONS to connect stations .
We will end up requiring a lot of ASUIIs making the installation very huge & demanding more Mxe controllers.Does anyone know of a device that we can connect all our analog trunks to then get an E1 output from it to connect to E1  ports on the Mxe?
Thank you

I don't know of any analog to E1 but there may be another solution:
You may be able to get a 2000 per node and populate it with LS/GS cards.
Each card holds 8 trunks and each cab hold 16 cards.
So you'd need 2 cabs and 25 cards.   It would be a lot cleaner than ASUs and I think the LS/GS cards can be picked up on the used market pretty easily.

I'm forgetting at this point, though, if the MXe will take a per node or not.

Yes the MXe II (Defo) & III (i think) take per cabs via a FIM module.

They have to be the 2K nodes not the 200 nodes (these do not accept trunks). I assume the 2K will still do trunks, I haven't used one one in a while.

You can also do this with Adtrans and FXS modules.   (Not sure if the module is an FXS or FXO)
Seen this done with T1s so assuming E1 is no problem
