one phone says you have a message but.....

that weird thing where one handset says you have a message. but when you press the voicemail button it starts  ringing another person's handset.
and the only was to fix it is for someone to answer that call when its ringing.
and then the message goes away and the first handset can actual access its mailbox.
just posting this for the next time I need to fix that and I have forgotten. again.

It's not weird... It's station to station or Call Me Back messaging feature. Another extension called this one, and they didn't answer so the caller pressed the Message button. Now the message light is flashing on the phone. If you press the flashing message button and it rings the other phone, as soon as they answer it the message light will clear. Otherwise you just need to clear it with a feature code.

Or just press Message * (star) to clear the lamp.

Now that you know the secret, you can light everyone’s lamp and drive them crazy.

we never use that feature intentionally. if this is activated, its accidental.

this definitively drives people crazy.

This is just a training issue though.

If your people get used to pressing the message key without going off hook first it will tell them where the message is coming from and they can decided to delete the message (*) or call the messaging station (#).

Let's say that there are 4 messages showing up on the display of the phone. They press the message button and it shows 1 message from Extension 1234 and if they press the message button again it will show 3 messages from Voice Mail; they press # at that point and it will go to VM.

Lower 'Message Wait' system timer down to 1 and it will greatly help alleviate this problem
