I have been told that the 2000 cabinets "will probably work, but if something goes wrong we're out of luck."
The cabinets are not officially supported on v. 7, only 6.0 and below. Many large customers are in the same boat. Most are not willing or able to make a capital investment level spend, especially where infrastructure is a concern. Since support for version 6 will sunset when 9.0 is released it might be a good idea to update to that now, if there's a feature you're looking for.
