Mitel 3300 CXi RS232 cannot input
« on: September 07, 2017, 12:36:43 PM »
I have a 3300 CXi that's having some network issue. I am trying to correct it's IP using the RS232 port documented in the manual.

Using Hyperterminal, putty, and termite, I can see output from the CXi. However, I am unable to input anything. I followed the setting outlined by the document :

- Baud Rate: 9600
- Data Bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop Bits: 1
- Flow Control: None

I have also connected

I see the message
"The communication program will instruct you to Press <SPACE><SPACE><SPACE> to stop auto-boot AFTER countdown starts"

and nothing happens when I press <space>.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use TeraTerm but that shouldn't matter... If it's not seeing input that's almost always a cable/connectivity issue.

Of course, you can just change the IP through the ESM web portal... Watch it boot in the terminal program and see it's currently assigned IP, connect your laptop directly to the Ethernet port and give yourself an IP in the same subnet and web to it and change it in IP settings.

I don't know Hyperterm like I do putty but look to see  what type of flow control you are using.
It should be XON/XOFF.
If you can't find it, try using putty.

The issue turn out to be the cable. I purchased another cable and was able to input via putty.

Thanks for all the help!

Typically you would use no flow control for this application and at these baud rates, regardless of the device's settings... even it was enabled on the far end, you can just use CTRL-S to send an XOFF (Pause transmission) or CTRL-Q to send an X-ON (Resume transmission) if you are not receiving data, sending data to the remote end should not be effected in this case (in reality, the far end will/should still accept input even after an XOFF is sent).

Hardware flow control (CTS/RTS or DSR/DTR) is completely different though...

Shows my age in this business in how well I know this off the top of my head. :)
