MiVoice Office 250/Mitel 5000 / Edge device for SIP Trunking Mitel versus vendor and requirement

I would like to switch from our existing PRI trunks to SIP Trunks possibly using Twilio or NexVortex.  Do I need an "edge device" and if so what are the benefits of getting a Mitel Edge device versus a compatible device from the SIP Trunk provider.  Any additional information and suggestions would be appreciated.

Have these End of Sale (EOS) and End of Life (EOL) been extended another year?
Looking to add SIP licenses and possibly PS1.
Where do I go for official Mitel announcements?
