If you want a user to not have access to calls coming in to another Directory Number, don't give them a DSS key with that Directory Number on it.

What do you think is the purpose of those DSS keys?

I view the purpose of the DSS key to provide our operators with easy, visible line status; just as it was on our old system - except you couldn’t inadvertently intercept a call to another ringing extension on those.

I'm just trying to understand the situation a bit better.
Why are the users pressing the DSS keys when they are flashing?
Up to this point the pressing of the DSS key appears to have been accidental on a 6940 touch screen.
Is there phone ringing when the DSS key flashes?
No, the phone does not have to be ringing to "intercept" the call by pressing the flashing DSS button
The answering of a call when you press a flashing DSS key is by design I believe

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear in my description of our issue. I will try to explain it better.

1. We have a "1st Ring" group that rings 5 phones in our main office (we don't have single designated operator - whoever is available answers the phone) When these 5 phones ring I can see all their DSS buttons flashing, if I were to press one of the DSS buttons while their extensions are ringing I'm connected to the caller.

2. If one internal extension is calling the other I see the DSS button flash of the extension being called, if I press the button I'm connected to the person trying to call that extension. Basically I could intercept an extensions call if a see the button flashing.

While our system is new and this might turn out to be not such a big deal, it's just a little odd that this is the way it works. The problem was discovered when a couple of users (not part of the "1st Ring" group  inadvertently touched their 6940 screen while the "1st ring" group was ringing and were connected to an incoming call for the other office.

I'm having an issue where all my extensions can be picked up from any other extension when ringing.   For instance when I see another extension ringing their DSS lamp flashes, if I press the DSS button I'm connected to the person attempting to call that extension. This is creating multiple issues, mainly I have phones in 2 different geographic locations and users are reporting that they are being connected to external incoming calls at location A from calls coming in to location B. This happens because a user might try to call an extension that is in a ring group for our main line when they are receiving a call.

I have a mix of 6920's and 6940's. Our system is new and I'm trying to learn as much as I can but coming up short in fixing this problem. Any guidance on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. The DSS keys do show the green / red indicators on the screen, but the actual physical LED's remain unlit. Also, the 3 buttons below the screen have no functions. It appears that the HCI Monitor COS is enabled. Maybe I have a defective unit.

So the 6940s are working OK for you, but the 6920s are not?

Are they hotdesk users? Maybe the base set CoS for the 6920s should be checked as well as the user CoS?

I only have the PKM attached to one 6940 to test and I can put the DSS keys on it but the physical LEDs  don't light and 3 bottom buttons have no function. I haven't tried the PK on a 6920 yet. We don't currently have any hotdesk users setup so that's not an issue.

The keys below the screen are context-drive and give the user options like "redial" or "transfer" depending on what's available to the current state of the device.

Your DSS keys should definitely light up.
Are you talking about one user monitoring another user on the same controller?
I wonder if you've changed a CoS option that has stopped it from lighting up? Not entirely sure which one it could be, but maybe the HCI Monitor CoS option?

Our company recently purchased and installed a Mitel system (3300 w/ 6920 & 6940 sets) I ordered a few M695 PKM's but my installer does not seem interested in programing them.

I can get the line presence keys (DSS/Service Lamp) to function but the built in LED's don't light up when the line is in use. Also, I don't see any programming options for the 3 keys below the screen within the Keys tab in the phone configuration.

Any idea on how do light the LED's or how to program the 3 buttons below the screen?
