Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Telephone Directory
« on: January 04, 2018, 09:39:45 AM »
I am looking for a way to bulk manage the internal telephone directory. The current directly which contains 1000's of entries for users on other phone systems is in a poor state. The telephone directory form is basic and only lets me alter one entry at a time which isn't going to work.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can. It seems MiCollab and the MCD don't share directory information. We've been having nothing but problems trying to resolve a basic requirement which is one central directory containing internal and external numbers and have this directory available on MiCollab and phones.

Think that might be a bug, we've got the same issue but have been unable to resolve.

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Mitel 6900 series phones
« on: July 20, 2017, 04:39:49 PM »
We've been using the 6900 series phones for just other a month now and wanted to feed back some additional findings since my last post reviewing initial findings.
I am pretty frustrated at the number of bugs which we as a customer are finding and feeding back to Mitel via our implementation partner. Do date, we've had no contact from Mitel and quite frankly am not impressed with these handsets when comparing them to other vendors such as Cisco 7800 series. Whilst I understand some of the usability and limitations are legacy limitations on the Mitel platform, this really doesn't help when we were under the impression Mitel were at the forefront and leading the pack. Feedback from our users :

Awful default ring tone and worse still, no ability to centrally configure this. This to me seems odd as the setting is obviously stored centrally as it follows a hot desk user so why can't it be set!

Visual voicemail seems buggy and doesn't show the internal name of the caller. However if you forward an internal voicemail it does.

When you use visual voicemail and lift the handset to listen to a call discretely, the phone plays a dial-tone which is confusing to users.

Call lists for received and missed calls shows the callers name but not their extension. If you want to provide a colleague for example the extension number of a missed caller, this doesn't seem possible.

Hot desk experience is confusing. Users confused with Locked showing when a hot desk phone is logged out and also when the local locked feature is used on a phone. Surely it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility to display Phone logged out on a similar message?

Do Mitel ever read posts where and does anyone have a suggestions how some of these issues can be raised directly with Mitel?

Thanks

I recently worked on a large scale deployment of MiVoice Business and MiCollab. Whilst I appreciate every vendor has pros/cons, I have to say not having worked with Mitel for quite a while, I am getting pretty frustrated at the compromises we are having to make where things just don't work that way.

We want to use Active Directory as an authoritative source of our global corporate directory. We've got MiCollab connected to AD for both account creation and directory look up. All good so far except that the Windows MiCollab client doesn't support this look up feature. It only seems to be supported on mobile, Mac and web MiCollab which seems odd given by far the largest install base would be Windows. On clients that are supported the directory is referred to as 'external'. Whilst I understand the logic by Mitel, yes the directory is external and not on a Mitel controller, this isn't exactly user friendly as the average user would interpret 'external' as a directory for numbers outside of the company.

We also want to ensure users using the directory on 6900 series phones (you can only search by surname which isn't very user friendly) are looking up the same directory information from Active Directory but this doesn't seem possible? Is the only option really to import a directory on to the MCD?

We have a large large multi-platform estate and therefore have users on different system hence we want to use AD to keep this single view of all users. Surely there is a better way of doing this?

Using this on version 8, works fine. No idea why it took so long to get this pretty basic feature.

Firstly, I am new to the Mitel platform so some of my observations might have also been present in the older series of handsets or might be down to programming or just the way Mitel and MiNet work.

The general look and feel of the phone is good, button layouts are very logical with easy to understand symbols.
The phone has 18 programmable personal keys, 6 on each screen. The LED's by these buttons don't work but I presume a future firmware release will fix this.

The screen is small and the colour scheme might cause issues with visually impaired users (light grey and light blue to indicate an enabled/disable state isn't a great choice). We'd like the phone to display the name of the logged in user on the top bar of the phone instead of the DN which is already displayed by the primary line key. We can label the primary line key as the users name but this is extra programming.  Setting a custom logo and screen saver is straightforward.
I've been unable to find an option to turn the display backlight off after a period of inactivity or at a certain time of day.

There are four content sensitive soft keys which in my opinion could be better utilised. For instance, having one of these keys appear as a call pickup key when another phone in the same pickup group is ringing.

The directory key defaults to the personal directory when most of our users would want to search the corporate directory. There should be a method of setting the default.

Visual voicemail has been enabled and works ok. Messages are played through the loudspeaker. You can pickup the receiver to listen to the message. However has you navigate to other messages, the phone will play a dial tone and then an unobtainable tone so not very user friendly and confusing for end users. Nonetheless prior to visual voicemail, the usage of the voicemail key was confusing as pressing the key would display 'call me back' which didn't really make sense to our users.
Unfortunately setting the voicemail key to utilise visual voicemail is a local setting the user must make as there doesn't appear to be a way to programme this centrally.

The options key (which opens a page called Static Settings), defaults to the status option. It would be nice to be able to restrict users to only certain options such as call forward or perhaps status and leave other options behind an advanced section.
Status is helpful but could be further improved by utilising LLDP to show the connected switch and switch port.

The ringtones on the phone to be honest are not great especially the default 'velocity' tone. Again, it is down to users to go and change this as there doesn't appear to be a way of either setting this centrally or prohibiting a user from changing these options. There doesn't appear to be an option to upload custom ringtones.

USB headset works well and the remote also works to control volume, mute, and answer/hangup.

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: 2nd line button

Interesting topic. I'm new to Mitel but have experience of a few competitor platforms and am struggling to fully match our  requirements.
It seems if I create a second key using multicall, this indeed lets me easily manage multiple calls however making a call on the second key does not update my status either on BLF keys elsewhere or on the MiCollab client.
Also in my view, an incoming call to a phone with multiple call appearances keys should not present the call to all keys but should just start with the first free call appearance key.
