Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Emergency Broadcast via Paging group
« on: March 08, 2013, 10:49:45 PM »
Hello,

While at a site visit at one of our manufacturing plants, the plant manager asked me if it is possible to send out an emergency broadcast via our Mitel phone system.  This plant is located in Tornado Alley.  Last year they had a tornado under one hundred feet away.  The tornado picked up several semi tractor trailers on our lot.   Most of our employees inside working were unaware that this was happening outside.

We have a Mitel 3300ICP system onsite.

I have two questions:

We do not currently have any overhead paging on the plant floor.  I would like to install a Mitel 5485 IP Paging unit.   Could I get assistance in what Valcom horns, amplifiers, etc. that I would need.  How do I tie the 5485 into the amplifier / horns.

Second, I was planning to use a page group for all of the 5312 handsets and the production floor.  Is there a way to prerecord a message / play an alarm signal over the overhead paging system?

Thank you for your time!

Thanks LoopyLou and wiseguy!!

I was looking at the ARS today.  Is there any easy way to print out our config (send to printer / .txt file)?

This is a sore subject with me.  My company spent $90k on Mitel last year, $30k of it was our corporate system. The tech from the company who installed it is leaving it up to me to fix.  We even received an invoice today for asking the tech when he is going to resolve it. We have service / software upgrade yearly maintenance contracts with this company (over $10k for our sites) and we still get treated this way!

I wish I could find a contact with in Mitel Corporate to voice my displeasure with this company!

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: 5310 for a large conference room
« on: February 06, 2013, 10:34:43 PM »
We just installed 5330's with the 5310 in our conference rooms back in November 2012.   My Executives hated the units!  The parties on the other end could not hear our executives.   Our Executive conference room is 15x25.  We had to replace them with Polycom IP 7000's.

I know I am a newbie to these forums, but I feel that Mitel dropped the ball on the design and execution of the 5310's.   They should redesign them. Sorry!

We have six sites with 3300ICP's that are networked (clustered).  Five of the plants have 5324 / 5312's hanging on their 3300ICP.   If we make a plant to plant call (4 digits and each site has a different site number), the number and name display.  For example, 4100 Joe User.   We recently installed our final 3300icp at our corporate office.  The Corporate 3300 was made the master in the cluster (even though we are not really clustering...I will explain later).   We have 5340 / 5330's hanging on this 3300ICP. Our extensions at corporate are 4200 and site number is 50.

If we dial plant A(41xx..Site 51), B(43xx..Site52), C(44xx..Site53), D(45xx..Site54), or E(46xx..Site55), their extension and name displays on our phone(5330), but on their handset(5312)displays only the number '504201'.  If the end user at plant A, B, C, D, or E dial our extensions, their display only the '504201'.

We have one user in a separate CoS to keep the 'big lamp' from flashing (Ext. 4221).  When I dial this number from the plant A,B,C,D, or E, the number and name display.   I know turning the big lamp off is not the fix and I really have not had an opportunity to look at the differences between the CoS that all of the other 50 users are in versus the 1 user in the No Big Lamp CoS.

Our clustering is turned off.  We have T-1's connected to a MPLS network and a 10mb MetroEthernet connection at corporate.   Our Mitel technician feels that we do not have enough bandwidth to turn on the 3300 clustering and blames that for the 5312 / 5324's not displaying the corporate extension and name correctly.

I know it is going to take me a day to figure it out (I am a Systems Admin only....amateur Mitel admin).  Have any of y'all ran into this situation and could give me a definitive setting to look for.

Thanks again for your time and assistance!!

Thank you for your assistance!!

I was able to get the 5312 to work off of the 3300icp via VPN.  My QoS is fine.  I can make calls to and from the 3300's site with no problem.

Next issue:  Our Internet / VPN connection is at our corporate office.  We have 5 manufacturing locations across the United States.  Each having a 3300ICP that is networked.  I have configured a SonicWall firewall at my house to mimic the configuration our offsite warehouse (IP addressing was changed).

I have the 5312 registered to the 3300ICP in plant A.  I can call Plant A extensions and they can call me.  Again, the QoS is close to perfect.   I can call our Corporate extensions and they can call my remote extension (again corporate is the Internet / VPN site).

If I call Plant B, Plant C, Plant D, or Plant E....I can make the call, but the phone drops when they pick up.  They can not hear me.  The users in those locations can call me, I see their name and number, but I can not hear them.

Any ideas / suggestions?   The only configuration I have not made is adding the Plant B, C, D or E's subnets to the firewall / routing tables.  I will try that next.  (Thanks...I may have thought it through typing this!!!)

This is my first post on this forum.  Thank you for your knowledge and the ability to exchange ideas!

I am responsible for five 3300’s and they are networked over an MPLS network.  I have a remote location that is very small and does not have MPLS.  We have a local ISP’s service (cable) with a SonicWall TZ170spw Enhanced onsite.  Management would like to install a single 5312 handset onsite.
Since we are using site-to-site VPN over the SonicWall’s (Corp has a NSA2400), my thoughts were to install the phone and point it to our existing 3300.  I know this is not the preferred method, but this is a temporary site for us with one employee.

I can ping the 3300, but the phone will not connect.

Am I missing a step / configuration or is my current configuration no plausible?  Do I need to install a Mitel Teleworker Gateway or install a 3300 in the remote location?  I would like to keep the costs as low as possible.

I appreciate any and all feedback!
