Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: speech delay on incoming calls
« on: October 13, 2012, 01:52:39 AM »
I have seen this in newer 3300 softwares with analog trunks as well (and one PRI, but that is a different issue that I think is related to something else with a certain carrier), the internal IP phone answers and there is about a 2 second delay before audio cuts though to analog trunks... The best I have found is to make sure the Line Quality Test is done and the result set on the lines accordingly, Caller ID is set properly for each trunk, and it get better but I have not been able to get rid of the delay completely.

Seems to have started in version 4.2, is still in the current software revision, and only appears on CX-variant platforms, I have not seen a single MX-variant with this issue. I opened a ticket with Mitel on it once, but got tied up on other issues and it auto-closed in the system, most customers have just gotten used to it and don't complain anymore, but it is annoying. Pretty sure I checked that COS for that option Ralph mentioned, but I might be wrong.

The PS-1 older style is a 1U 5000 lookalike Linux server.

If you bought one now its a 1U dell server running the same Linux OS.
Oh... nevermind what I said before then... but if you get a PC Attendant Console that does this, then I got ya covered!  ;D

I would look at the Firewall again, that is the most likely cause of one-way audio (these phone are set for NAT in the 5000 and not Auto, correct?)

Since these phones worked remotely before, the most likely case here is that something changed in your router's port forwarding and the corresponding information was not changed in the phones and/or 5000 system.

The proper ports to open and port forward from the public world to the internal IP address of the 5000 for Inter-Tel IP phones (depending on your software release) are:

6004-6247/UDP
5566/TCP
5567/UDP

Inter-Tel's "offical" document on this is here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/95033600/Intertel%205000%20NAT%20Port%20Forwarding.pdf

If you are using Mitel 53XX IP phones remotely, the port range is very different... If you give me your Software revision, type(s) of phones, and any other IP services that need to transverse this gateway, I can tell you exactly what ports need to be mapped to the 5000.

And that is all that is needed. In the 5000 you have to make sure the remote extensions are setup as NAT and the public IP address is populated correctly in the system.

If ALL the ports are not open and mapped to 5000's IP address, audio will fail...

If this is a Windows PC, by default they typically turn on Power Savings for the USB ports, which causes it to not see the software key...
I have run into issues with software keys in Attendant PC Consoles and a few simple changes usually fix it.

Go to the Windows Device Manager (Right Click My Computer and select Properties, then Device Manager) and go to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section torward the bottom and expand it.

Now open each entry's Properties and look for a Power Management tab and ensure that the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is NOT ticked. Not all entries will have this option or tab, that is normal.

I know that fixed issues with PC Attendant Consoles not seeing the software key.

FYI to anyone interest in the details on this....

Mitel 5330e/5340e phones are supported as regular 5330/5340 phones with the following requirements.

Mitel 3300 MCD 4.0 SP1
Mitel 5000 Release 4.0
Mitel Border Gateway 6.0

In the above environments it will run in 10/100 mode only, Gigabit is not supported.

To be used as 5330e/5340e (Gigabit phones) the following minimum softwares are required:

Mitel 3300 MCD 5.0 SP2
Mitel 5000 Release 5.1
Mitel SX-200 ICP Release 5.0 UR2 (Sales Engineering was unsure if Gigabit would be supported or not)
Mitel Border Gateway 7.1

There is no support for the 53XXe phones in any release prior to those listed above as they are no longer supported software revisions by Mitel, and there will be no further development in firmware or software to make these phones work on non-supported software releases.

This is from Mitel Sales Engineering.

I haven't worked on a 5000 with a PS-1, but is it similar to the Axxess with a stand-alone Windows PC essentially acting as the main processor?

I do indeed have an iso image but it might not be original, think it is a collection of stuff I had on CD years ago of the Mitel 3100 system software, client software, SysTool Help, Tech Handbook, GIG, etc. for version 4.1.20.0 up to Patch P6... Uploading to DropBox at the moment. If you need this please PM me, I will not post a link to it publicly.

BTW, I need more DropBox space to host my manuals and files for Mitel, Inter-Tel, ESI, and various other documents and files... help my by signing up for a FREE DropBox account via this link: http://db.tt/3I4YxWTR then we BOTH get an extra 500MB of storage free!

I think I actually have a copy of this, full CD image and documentation somewhere in an external HD at home... I will look late this evening and post it up if I can find it!

Did anyone get an answer on whether these are usable on older systems?

I helped a sales person build up a 5000 today and when we went to print it out, it popped up that the 5330 and 5340 sets were discontinued products?

I have lots of older systems out there that people want to add phones too, can they just use the 'e' series?

Is this a new issue?

Have you done a "Backup Database Save" before doing the reset or waited til 11:00pm when it is done automatically?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: Outgoing CallerID?
« on: October 11, 2012, 01:03:45 AM »
I have tried many times with several carriers to setup outgoing Caller ID over T-1's, every carrier says they don't support it, it is a function of ISDN (PRI) only. The only time I have been able to get "caller ID" to pass across a T-1 is when two PBX's were networked that way, and it usually took some trickery to get that working as well, as in T-1 the information had to passed via DTMF in-band, so the far end had to know the string would be <ANI><DESTINATION>. It has been a few years since I tried this, I just gave up since no one does it anymore.

I have not seen a carrier allow this to be done for at least 10-12 years, and those required "special" T-1's and pricings, and I only saw one call center that did this, and it had T-1's directly into MCI's POP (so you know how old this was, when MCI was BIG).

Why not just upgrade to a PRI? the hardware is the same, and you get name as well as number coming in. Also, in many areas PRI circuits are cheaper than traditional T-1's... I know it shouldn't matter from a technical stance, but carriers just want to get rid of traditional T-1's since PRI's are so much easier to troubleshoot from sitting behind a desk.

Just found out that the 5550 is now supported on Windows 7 64 bit.
Version 4.2.0.28

This is excellent news!!! I have a couple customers who will be very happy to hear this!

Thanks for sharing!

Using PRIs.

I ran several test with my IT contact.   Couldn't dupe it.

Oops... that is what I get for skimming and not reading the whole thing, saw analog and noise and just assumed I had the answer. My bad.

Mitel Software Applications / Re: Mitel MAS welcome emails not delivered
« on: October 11, 2012, 12:42:55 AM »
Here is a useful link that I usually refer to.
Actually, this link is a very bad way of testing, it is missing some parts of the ITU standard for SMTP, and using these instructions will cause some perfectly good, working configurations to appear to fail, in the standard to and from email addresses should be enclosed in <> brackets, although many (but not all) email servers will allow it without the brackets, newer MS Exchange servers require the brackets...

http://www.simplescripts.de/smtp-check-port-25-telnet-command.htm

SMTP Check Port 25 with the Telnet Command

You can check your SMTP Server on SMTP port 25 with the following Telnet command:

Open a command line and type

telnet smtp-server.domain.com 25

If your server is online a connection will be established on port 25 (SMTP).

An Exchange Server answers with the following output:

220 mailserver.domain.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.5329 ready at  Sat, 22 May 2006 08:34:14 +0200

When you type the ‘help’ command the available commands are listed:

214-This server supports the following commands:
214 HELO EHLO STARTTLS RCPT DATA RSET MAIL QUIT HELP AUTH TURN ATRN ETRN BDAT VRFY

Try the following to send an eMail from the command line:

220 mailserver.domain.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.5329 ready at  Sat, 22 May 2006 09:01:29 +0200
helo myserver.domain.com
250 mailserver.domain.com Hello [10.1.11.133]
mail from:<myname@mydomain.com>
250 2.1.0 myname@mydomain.com....Sender OK
rcpt to:<recipientname@mydomain.com>
250 2.1.5 recipientname@mydomain.com
data
354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>
subject: This is a test mail
to: recipientname@mydomain.com
This is the text of my test mail.
.
250 2.6.0 <exchange.domain.com> Queued mail for delivery
quit

If the mailserver returns a "syntax error" after the "mail from:" command, you've probably forgotten to put the mail address in brackets <>.

There are also several free tools you can use to test SMTP from a Windows PC, here are a few:

MiVoice Office 250/Mitel 5000 / Re: Mitel 5000 IP Ports not open
« on: October 11, 2012, 12:34:53 AM »
You need to go into the 5000 and set the system NAT IP address to your new public IP address, there are two locations you do this... one is in System->IP Settings, change System NAT IP address to your new public IP, and  in System->Devices and Feature Codes->IP Connections->P6000 (typically, the p6000 part might vary slightly) then set NAT IP Address to your new public IP address.

Should be good to go after that, assuming you kept all the same port forwarding in your router...

Also, don't mistake "open" ports for ports in use... the 5000 will not respond on the audio ports, they are just for UDP traffic, an unmanaged stream of information, they are setup and torn down as needed... you can't really "scan" for them.
