Title: iPhone on 3300 release 7mcd
Post by: x-man on July 16, 2016, 09:31:38 AM
Been a long time since I did a softphone on a 3300 so a little help guys. Customer has a MBG (quite old but still works fine. Now wants an iPhone added. Is there a anyway to do it without using UCA (or whatever its called today)?

Or have I got to get UCA and its attendant cost to get the iPhone on to the system?

Thanks for any help.

I have Benbria loaded on my iPhone.
Works great.
I use it with Teleworker and I can be reached anywhere.

Not much to it.
Purchase the Benbria app.
Create a SIP extension on the Mitel.
If your software is too old for personal ring groups then add your desk phones prime line as a second line on the SIP phone.
If you're going to use teleworker then point the Benbria to the external IP of the TW server and authorize it in the server.

Thanks Ralph. The problem is locating the Brebria app. Did a goole and came up blank unless it is Brenbria Loop?

Sorry.

I said "Benbria"  it should have been "Bria" by Counterpath.
It's in the App Store.

Hi Ralph, help please. I can register the bria on the local network and it works just dandy. However when I point it to the external address of the MBG it won't even attempt to register. It gives a 500 report. Since I have registered it on the mitel it should ask me for an installer password but I'm not even seeing it getting to the MBG. Any ideas?

I have minet phones working just fine on the MBG.

Do this in the MBG:
Set you a new SIP device (or use the old one if you created it already)
Set a new up the "Set-Side Username" and add that user name to the Bria.
Set up a new "Set-Side password" and add it to the Bria.

Set up the ICP username and password using the same creds you programmed in your 3300.

Does the MBG require SIP licences for this to work?

I would agree on Bria as well, although I have played with Media5-fone successfully as well.

On the 3300 you need some kind of SIP-aware firewall/router, SBC (Mitel Border Gateway), or a VPN connection.

And you do not need SIP Trunking licenses, just an available Teleworker user licenses, and a little config on the MBG since SIP is disabled by default.

Now, on the 5000 it is SUPER easy, a little port forwarding in the router and away you go.

Will the media-5 work through MBG?

Don't think I tested that specifically, but I don't know why it wouldn't work.

TBH, since both apps cost money I'd recommend Bria since it is more universally accepted though.

Maybe someone here should Ping Media-5 to see if we can get a handful of demo licenses.
Then we can say what if it works for us and what we like/don't like.

I wonder how that could be arranged.   ;)

Buggered if I can get bria to work through the MBG. As far as I can see I have the MBG programmed correctly and the sip device is enabled but it won't register with a 408 error. Internally it registers in seconds. I am trying Ralphs suggestions now but am working with customers IT department who are jittery about leaving sip open all the time if not needed.(their firewall blocks any SIP traffic. We don't want millions of sipvicous attempts if we can help it to the MBG.

I will shoot them a message from via their webpage.

EDIT: I sent Media5 a message requesting some test/demo user licenses for both iPhone and Android clients. I also requested they have their technical department make an account and join in this thread. It would be nice to have an alternative to Bria. Will see where it goes from there.

Hi Guys,

My name is Samuel, I work at the Media5 Corporation's Technical Assistance Center located in Sherbrooke Quebec Canada.
We developed the Media5-fone and Media5-fone MPS (for users with an account provisioned on our Mobile Provisioning Server) softclients as well as other IMS applications.

I'll be happy to answer your questions as best as I can, I'm also communicating directly with Ace by email.

Hi Samuel,
Welcome.  We're glad you stopped by.
If you happen to have a doc that show's how to set up with a Mitel 3300 or 5000 I'd love to either link to it or post it.

I did get an answer back from Media5, one that they have submitted a request to allow their support staff to join a forum, and a little bit of a confused question about the demo licenses since the app is free... :/

EDIT: And I should have read to the end of the thread before posting, because the Media5 guy is here already. Well, so much for wondering if he got permission I guess.

To my knowledge we don't have anything specific for Mitel, though I will double check that since we are currently working on some certifications with them (for different products with our Mediatrix branch).

We do have a list in Media5-fone for preconfigured IP-PBXs and SIP AS (stuff like Panasonic, Unify, Mediatrix, Asterisk, etc), we could definitely add Mitel 3300 and 5000 to the list if would have some sort of interop document, if specific settings are needed, DTMF payload for example. If no specific settings are needed, we just add those devices to the list, and it would make it much easier for the end-user to setup his SIP account in Media5-fone (he would only see the mandatory fields).
Tell me what you think.

I didn't didn't know that either.  This is the first I've heard of them, when this thread got going.

Now we need to squeeze out some time to actually test it.
Do you have the link for the DL?

Search media5 in the app/play store.

I just did a quick test and it worked straight away on my MBG.
Looks good for basic calls (free version)

Sarond. Can I have a look at your settings on the MBG. I can't get it to connect to the MBG no matter what I try......getting really frustrated now.

Not sure I can cover the entire config as it was done a while ago and I'm certainly no expert.

Ensure SIP is enabled
MBG>Configuration>SIP Options>SIP Connector=Enabled

I'll assume your extension and pin on the MCD is 998/123456 as an example.

On the MBG
MBG>Services>SIP Devices>Add a SIP Device
Set-side Username is the username you would use to connect to the MBG e.g. sip998
Set-side Password is the password  e.g. S0m3C0mpl3xP@ssw0rd

Icp-side username is the MCD username e.g. 998
ics-side password is the MCD SIP password e.g. 123456

Enable it and select your configured icp.
That should really be it.

On your device you would use the set-side credentials to login.

The Unlock also activates multiple Bluetooth devices support.

@sarond Glad to know it worked right away for you!

I can't get it working on MCD7 and MBG 9. its hitting the MBG but getting no further and I can't see anything wrong with the settings. Can't get a Bria working either.

Do you want me to push this post into the applications section as it sounds related to MBG, maybe it will get more traction there.
