Hello,
I have a new 3300 MXe III with dual hard drives and a raid card. After installing everything I couldn't ping the default address and when I consoled in I received a message stating
SATA RAID controller detected
Bay 1 drive hase a hard fault
Bay 2 drive has a hard fault
Error !!!! no valid drives found
rebooting....
could anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
-
Try booting with just 1 HDD to start with.
Then when up install the second and it should mirror.
I would also look at clearing the RAID Sockets (removing any known HDD from RAID controller)
Clear the sockets using the following steps:
System must be powered down.
Both drives must be removed from the system.
With serial port is connected, power on system and wait for system to report:
SATA RAID Controller Detected.
Bay 1 is empty.
Bay 2 is empty.
ERROR !!!! No Valid Drives Found.
Clearing the socket....Done.
Rebooting...
Power down the system.
Install 1 HDD and boot the system.

Thanks! I will give this and try and let you know.
-
That took care of my initial issue so thanks.
Now when I boot up it shows
boot device : ata=0,0
unit number : 0
processor number :0
file name : /partition1/rtc8260
inet on thernet 192.168.1.2
gateway 192.168.1.1
user : ftp
when I set my laptop to this subnet i still cannot ping this address. Any thoughts? It's been sitting at the above screen for awhile and as I was typing this out it started to show the following.
disk configuration started.
creating block device for controller 0 drive 0....
it's been sitting like this now for a few minutes.
-
It went through a process of creating cache layer...etc and said disk configuration completed. However, it says error loading file : erno =0xc0006
can't load boot file.
It does show
sata raid controller detected
bay 1 empty
bay 2 is disk operational
still cannot ping though.

Are the new hard dusks blank or have they software on them. If the former you need to use fix partition in the boot details and boot_install in the file name.
-
I'm not sure and when I asked my re-seller he said sometimes they ship with software and sometimes they don't. I haven't come across hard drives without software yet so I haven't gone through that process.
thanks,
-
If its got software on the disk it usually has a sticker telling you which software onit.
-
bay 1 empty
bay 2 is disk operational
Perhaps the drive is in the wrong slot. I would make sure you have it in drive 1, and do a Boot_Install in case they got messed up earlier. Clear socket first
-
If you follow what's in the technical handbook you should succeed, it's a bit disconcerting but it works.
-
What does boot_install actually do?
-
I cleared the socket again and now it shows
sata raid controiller detected
bay 1 is disk operational
bay 2 is empty
I did check the sticker and it shows V13.0.1.28 so they should have software on them. I don't know how to do a boot_install as I don't have the technical handbook.
thanks,
-
Should of noted I still cannot ping the default address.
-
Can you post what is coming from the serial output?
Sometimes the system will be trying to boot from the wrong partition.
It will normally be one of the following filenames
/partition1/RTC8260
or
/partition4/RTC8260
you can stop the boot sequencing by pressing the space bar 3 times (when prompted) and then change the parameters as required.
-
Answer formed as a question: Q:How can you ping the default address before the system has at least been started to load. A: You can't.
The sytem gets its IP address from the boot parameters as per Sarond and I have been saying. Boo_Install will start the sequence of loading software from scratch and take its parameters from the boot sequence; AIUI. IF they are clean drives you need to do a Fix_Partition in the same sequence at the bottom of the boot sequence.

here's what I get from the serial output.

That looks OK, does it get past that stage?
It should try and start loading the OS.
