Title: Upgrade 3300 cx from 8.0 to 9.0

When trying to upgrade I get a error that says need to obtain a new password. How do I do this.

You are probably out of software assurance. You will need to get back on it via your vendor and then you can upgrade. But then (if the Cx has 500mb of memory or can be upgraded) you can go to the latest release in a couple of jumps. 8.0 to 4.2 (to get to the new database type and then I believe you can go straight to MiVoice 7.2 or whatever its called this week.

You won't get anywhere without The SWA though.

When upgrading from anything prior to 9, I always upgrade to 9 first, then to MCD 4.2 (and beyond)... I have had phones not boot due to firmware issues. Older firmware doesn't have a large enough boot partition for the firmware in MCD 4.2, loading into 9 and letting all the phones flash, then upgrading resolves the issues.

But to the OPs problem, x-man is correct, you must get a new license when going from 8 to 9 or any major version change, and SWA is the only way to get that.
