Title: new 3300 cxi

I bought a 3300 cxi on ebay but it came without a hard drive or any memory. is this thing a large paperweight or can i pop in a new hard drive and get the software

You should be able to get a drive in the thing, but you still have to get the software and have a valid App Record ID (license) to make it useful.

i can clone the hard drive off another cxi and the just turn the dbms off so it wipes the database, will that work?

Large paperweight unles you want to use it as  maintenance spare.

Personally I'd just do a manual software install on the drive with the "FixPartition" flag. But again, you need to have a valid App Record ID to license it with for the chassis to be able to be used for anything.
