Hello,
I have a Mitel 5000 system. when customers call in they are able to reach our CEO by reaching the 'dial by name' directory. Is there a way to take him out of this so customers can't reach him while still being able to use the dial by name for all others?

In his mailbox under DIRECTORY INFORMATION flag UNLISTED NUMBER. The PRIVATE EXTENSION choice leaves him in the directory but won't announce his extension number (not what you want, but just FYI).
-
You can also put a ~ character in front of his name in the description column.

I tried going to 5000 CP > System > Devices and Feature Codes > Phones. And in the 'Description' column I put a tilde in front of my name but it's still searchable. Other ideas, or am I placing it in the wrong place?

Worked for me! Name would be ~Smith, John if searching by last name and Smith, ~John if searching by first.

Here's where the tilde is really useful: when an employee leaves the company, I remove the name from the display and put a tilde in front of the name in the description. When folks are hired around here, we’re usually told “he’ll be sitting at Joe Smith’s old desk.” Since Joe Smith is still in the system, I can find the extension pretty quickly.

thank you all for the reply's. actually dwayneg, you're first suggestion worked. went to ‘Directory Information’, changed ‘Unlisted Number and Private Extension…’ to ‘Yes’ and their names are no longer searchable.
