Title: SSD Drive failure
Post by: johnp on March 31, 2015, 09:27:13 PM
Just want to know if what I see is common. See these failing far more than the standard rotating discs

Haven't had any yet, but I vaguely remember that there was a suss batch at one stage.

I've had 2 fail in the last year, one on the bench before install and yesterday at a remote site. Had the customer get a laptop drive for the remote locally as this was the fastest way to recover. I'm now awaiting the return of the failed on, might try a reformat and see what gives.

Depends on the failure mode. We had a batch that semi failed and after a format and reload they were fine from then on in. The other semi failure mode was that after a power cut the system would only partially come back up but some [not all] of the programming would be missing...a restore worked every time and they were fine after that even after power cuts.

It's been a couple of years but at one point it was a known issue.
The recovery was simply to remove the SSD drive and put it back in.  (strange, I know, but it worked)

I've had SSD failures. Have tried the unplug/plug in fix, but had repeat failures later. Ended up replacing them.
