Title: analog trunks into a mitel 5000
Post by: markdevoll on December 02, 2014, 01:32:41 PM
i have 2 trunks that are going to be analog DID trunks (not on a pri) going to a fax finder (worst customer service ever in my opinion.) does mitel make a DID trunk card or can i use a lsm4 and make it DID? how do i get the DIDs to the fax finder?

The DIDs need to point to phantom extensions that forward to the trunk group of the fax finder

Markdevoll,

We used to use the SLA for that application in the Inter-Tel days, but I am not sure if you can still get those. If you can then there is a strap on the inside that allows for Analog DIDs. Haven't seen an application like that in over 15 years though.

Thanks,

TE

SLAs are still available in Sales Workbench, but the only way I could find them was as PN 550.2500 in the PARTS CATALOG section at the bottom.  And I checked programming, you can still configure them.  But they need to be connected to a digital port (one SLA = 2 DID ports) and you just tell the digital card that's what's on the port (dual DID).
In order to get calls to your fax you'll need to add ANALOG VOICE MAIL feature license.  Set two SL stationsin a HG, program the HG as a VM hunt group (flag in HG).  For each user build a phantom phone X, and use SYS FWD to set immediate fwd to the HG.  Now when call arrives DID sends to phantom X, which fwds to HG...when fax finder answers, the 5000 thinks it's a VM and echoes the ext number into it as DID.

SLA is a 2 port device that converts a digital phone port into 2 separate analog station or DID ports (digital phones were based on ISDN BRI, so 2 B + D).  It was originally developed waaaay back when there was no SLC for Axxess, so it was the only way to get analog ports on the system.  But the ports can be strapped for either analog stations or analog DID trunks (since SLA delivers dial tone and listens for DTMF) and it's FCC certified for connection to DID circuits from the LEC.
SLA has 2 RJ11 jacks for the 2 circuits, so that's how you connect.
In programming you'll go to the card configuration and configure that port for Dual DID, then build a call routing table just as you would for a PRI.  You'll need to list each DID and destination, there's no one-for-one default destination.  You'll be able to put the trunks in a CO trunk group and set it to ring to the CRT.  If you map each DID to a phantom, SYS FWD those phantoms to the fax finder HG FLAGGED AS ANALOG VM HG each call will go to fax finder and system will echo phantom extensions number into the fax finder.

Congratulations on finding one of the last analog DID providers around!

You put one in, or you're not doing analog DIDs.

Markdevoll,

Why would you order analog DIDs if you didn't have a known solution to utilize them? This is putting the cart before the horse and is a bad engineering design flow. It is our job as subject matter experts to steer our customers away from solutions that are antiquated or hard to support with their current build, especially with very few options to repurpose those assets in the future.

Sorry,

TE

If you can't afford a T-1 line then you should look for another solution.  Using the SLA to emulate DID was hot in the 90s.

Never had a manual of its own, complete directions including DID are in CS5000_InsMan_6-1.pdf (installation manual) starting on page 292.

If you're certified on Mitel you can download it from MITEL ON LINE.  If not, we're really not supposed to give it to you.  But I found an older 5.0 version here for free ftp://70.98.216.18/Mitel%20Software/CS%20&%20HX%20Software/Mitel%205000%205.0%20Docs/Mitel%205000%20CP%20v5.0%20Installation%20Manual.pdf  and SLA is on 5-164.

Markdevoll,

I doubt anyone has a current customer utilizing this on a 5000, but what problem are you running into?

Thanks,
