Title: Mitel v3.2 networked to Mitel v6.0- point to point networking
Post by: jmarcwsp1 on June 25, 2014, 10:20:59 AM
Customer is looking to network their existing v3.2 with a v6.0 via point to point networking.  They need to add 30 phones and 1 PRI on a the v6.0.  Do I just need a T-1 in each system to accomplish this?  Thanks.

jmarcwsp1,

Yes, You will need a T-1/E-1 Card for each site, most likely a dual at the site with version 6.0.  As for licensing you will not need any extra at the version 6.0 site, but you may need it at the 3.2 site as I am not sure if they had the free T-1 licensing back then.

If it is a dry line point-to-point then it would be best to make both sides an E-1 since it would provide more channels for communication; just a suggestion.

Thanks,

TE

Thanks TE!!!

The have 3 T-1/PRI circuits on the v3.2.  We are planning to use the 3rd T-1/PRI Card for dry line the point-to-point connection.   We are going to actually point the 3rd PRI circuit to the HX v6.0.

Back in the 3.2 days each PRI was $1,400 list.  They are of course included in the HX/MiVoice Office...

Curious as to why they want to use Point To Point instead of IP networking.

Customer believe IP Networking, even in this scenario, is flawed.  He has a quote from Cisco for over $300,000 for his 3 locations.  I am sure they are not quoting point to point.

Odd, but okay. This is kinda funny, because just yesterday I was having a few beers with another old phone guy. We were talking about how it had been at least 10 years since either of us had done a Point To Point T1, or even looked at an Adtran TSU-120.

IP Networking is Limited to 6 ports with your free licenses, E1 to E1 gives you 30 I assume?

Only the first PRI port is free, further PRI ports are licensed don't forget!
