I have a client that is complaining that when they place a call on mute they hear a beep about every 30 seconds. This is obviously annoying and they would like to turn it off.
Has anyone experienced this?

Is he using a cordless headset or handset on a 53XX phone? If so, the tone is designed to remind the user he's still on the phone, since he may be away from the desk and unable to see phone lights. Don't believe you can turn that off, part of the cordless device.

I get that beep as well when muting the mic on my Plantronics Headset, by design.

I know some headsets will beep if the batteries are low in the base or headset.

Is there an way to increase the timer so the beeps are less frequent?

There are different models of cordless headsets, would need a model to confirm.

I would advise the user to use Hold instead of Mute, then the caller will hear the MOH or a Tick Tone to give them confidence they haven't been cut off!
You can then bump the hold recall timer up so they aren't disturbed.

Agree with NTEDave - and you could assign that extension to the Alternate Hold Timer (up to 1000 seconds).

The OP hasn't confirmed that it is a cordless headset. If it is, than hold isn't an option if the user is away from the desk. Our receptionist wanders around the building and mutes the headset as needed to put the caller "on hold" while returning to her desk.
