I'm having a discussion internally regarding an issue we've receive a few complaints about.
Users are saying that when they are on speaker phone their phone will ring and disrupt the conversation.
I've never seen a case where this has been true.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced that or if you happen to know of a COS toggle that would allow a phone to ring while on speaker.
Has anyone see this happen?

It will full on ring? Or give the alert tone?
-
Full ring.
I've tried in on my phone and I don't even get a bleep.
That's the way I've always known it to work.

I know when set to "Ring Continuos" we have had customers complain, but as soon as we change to "Ring" trouble is cleared. This couldn't be the case, could it?
-
I tested with my own phone. My second line is programmed as "ring cont".

I thought that was what 'ring cont' was for ....phone rings even if off hook rather than just an alerting tone?
-
Yes but on speaker phone it doesn't ring audibly at all.

Correct....design intent. What ah interruption that would be if handsfree and a call comes in. It would blast you and the far end.
-
Unfortunately our customer says it is.
I happen to believe her but I can't replicate it and apparently she can't replicate it at will.
I can't figure out what would be the scenario where it would.

Override?
Try enabling Busy Override Security in the device's COS and see if it stops.
-
I wouldn't think that would it but it's worth a shot.
Have you seen this before where a phone will ring when on speaker phone?
Ralph
-
No I haven't, but that's about the only feature I can think of that's specifically supposed to alert a called busy set.
-
What kind of phone? Is there potential its cross talk i.e picking up ringing for some other set. Can't otherwise think why you would get rining over the speaker when you are handsfree.
-
It's a 5340.
I'm being told it happens even when muted.

I was able to duplicate this.
If your phone is on speaker and muted, when a line rings it will ring the phone and mute the speaker.

Can I get someone to do a simple test for me?
I need verify if this problem exist in earlier software. I don't have any avail system earlier than 6.
What I need you to do is make an outbound call from a 53XX phone on speaker and then mute the mic.
I tested by calling another tech and then had them just start counting so I had some incoming audio.
Then have someone else ring any other line on your phone.
What I'm looking for is if the phone actually audibly rings and kills the incoming audio until it stops ringing.
I'll need to know what version of software your system is running.
Thanks

5330e on MCD 4.0SP4 (10.0.4.26): I get a short ring burst, after that the key (multicall of the prime DN on key 2) just flashes. Ring burst was too short to be able to tell if it does anything with the existing call.

Thanks Lundah,
Any chance you can change the button to Ring Cont to test that way once?
I suspect that will keep ringing.
If the mic is active it won't.

Yes, it operates exactly as you describe. If the multicall is "Ring Cont.", the ringing mutes out the speaker if the mic is muted. Set for "Ring", and you just get the short burst which doesn't mess with the speaker. Doesn't seem to make a difference if the 5330 set initiated the call on speakerphone or not.

Thanks Lundah,
I've updated my Mitel ticket.
