Title: Wireshark tracing IP phones
Post by: SUSD on May 13, 2014, 04:54:12 PM
3300 MXe 2-Clustered Rel 4.2 / 10.2.0.26_2  EMB-VM 6-SX200 10-ASU

Anyone know if I can use Wireshark to trace my IP phone traffic ?  I put a hub between my Mitel and the switch, and a laptop with Wireshark to the hub also. I'm not seeing anything this way.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

If it is IP Phone to IP Phone the media will stream directly.

You can set the PC port on the phone to mirror, this maybe your best and easiest solution.

It seems you can't get new cheap hubs anymore.
I bought a 4 port 'hub' that turned out to be a switch.
Doesn't work for Wireshark.

As SUSD suggest it may be better to put the phone data port in mirror mode.
Here's a link on how to do it. www.mitelforums.com/articles/3300/how-to-mirror.php (http://www.mitelforums.com/articles/3300/how-to-mirror.php)

Remember to go into System Options and disable Voice Encryption prior to doing this, or else your traces will be unusable.

Also, use g.711 if you want to easily play back the audio.
