Title: V6.0 SP 2 Problems with backups
Post by: wobbly_head_bob on March 25, 2014, 01:33:21 PM
Hi guys!

Just curious to know if anyone else has heard of or seen this issue:

Occasionally, upon back-up completion, the controller asks if you want to save the file, we hit "save" ... and the dialog box disappears.  That's it, its over.  No option to select a folder or anything, the controller just basically killed the transfer.  Doing another back up and hitting save again, works like a charm.  We have 45 switches in our network all V6.0 SP2 and have this happen on one or two controllers a month, no pattern to speak of.  Could be one controller one time and a different one the next.  Anyone seen this?

Are you clearing all of your cookies, then another attempt?

Nope, simply saying WTF? then trying again successfully.

Sometimes that is the best solution!

Remember Tom Cruise's quote in Risky Business:

"Sometimes you have to say WTF."

In v5 you put in the backup destination and went away and did something else for a while and it was done when you come back and just acknowledged the Backup Complete dialogue. I find with v6 you have to babysit the backup as it runs and then pops up a dialogue asking where you want to save the backup. If you leave it too long, you get nothing, but if you deal with it straight away it works. I suspect the output file is in a temporary cache and it expires after a period of time. Personally, I have better things to do than sit and wait for backups to complete. I much prefer the previous incarnation.

This might be a case where you could put FileZilla Server on your laptop and use FTP to backup.
That way you can walk away from your desk and come back and check later.
