Title: Off hook voice announce
Post by: tlmagnus on March 05, 2014, 09:45:04 AM
I have a client who previously had OHVA and thought that the 5000 would have it as well.  They are using 5340 IP phones, which apparently don't support OHVA on the 5000.  They are desperate to get the feature - does anyone know of a workaround/feature/hack that might get this (or something similar) to work?
Thanks!

Sorry, this feature died with the general availability of Instant Messaging chats.  Still possible on 500 with old digital phones that could hold a PCDPM card, but newer digital and IP don't have a second voice channel.
UCA can do some IM, but there are cheaper and free IM solutions

What system did they have before?

Is it actual OHVA they are wanting or simply a "voice call" type setup?

They previously had a comdial DSU, which did have the true OHVA.  It's an odd situation, I've never had anyone else actually use that feature.  Normally you tell a client that someone has the ability to interrupt their conversation they ask how to turn the feature off, not how to use it!  They previously would announce holding phone calls to staff who were on the phone, with the thought that they could take the call if more important than their current call.

From your explanation I think a good solution would be to go ahead and transfer the call.  Caller ID will tell user who the caller is so he can decide what to do.  Then with 5340 you actually will get soft key option to send to voice mail or divert to another extension without interrupting current live call.  A plus: with PC attendant console you can CHANGE CALLER ID (the TAG button)...so it comes in saying WIRELESS, attendant talks to caller, changes to DAVE URGENT and send to user, he sees DAVE URGENT on his ringing phone and decides whether to interrupt current call or send new call elsewhere.
