Hello
We were given a Mitel 300 CXi chassis for nothing the other week, it wouldn't boot. VXWorks would start then tell me it couldn't load the boot file and kept on going round and round in Circles.
I'm following the manual on how to re-install the system software manually but it's getting stuck trying to load the upgrademain.out file from my FTP server.
So it boots
downloads Boot_Install from my FTP server
Starts partitioning then tries to download upgrademain.out
The problem is I can see the logs on the FTP server real time and it's not even trying to download this file!
I see it downloading Boot_Install just fine so I know my FTP config is good, it just doesn't seem to even try and find upgrademain.out!
Where / what could I be doing wrong?

Curious to know if it's licensed with the AMC.

It was a working system that BT installed originally, it has been sitting about for a while as an IT partner company shifted to hosted phones.
We were in there one day and they asked if we wanted it, I was hoping to use it as a test system in house.
So if I can get the correct version on it, it should sync up with the AMC and work, theoretically :)

Double-check the software installed on the FTP server. Might want to just go ahead and re-run the software installation .exe on the server.

If you haven't got the license ARID number then i would not bother, without that its worthless.
Sounds like it has no build of software on the hard drive.
If you do manage to install the software it will come up blank (default)
To license it you will need to enter the ARID number.
Also when this situation happened to one of our customer and we had the ARID, MITEL refused to add it to our company AMC account.
(So we could administer the account I.E. add more licenses)
They said they "don't allow reselling of licenses"!
So you would need to speak to a MITEL approved reseller to buy a "base bundle" Something like part number 54004971 £945 GBP
Even then you may need a new "SYS ID" or "I button" chip which gives you a "hardware ID" to connect to your ARID ( looks like a big watch battery on the PCB, right hand side) This is because the "hardware ID" of the controller you have is already connected to an ARID. MITEL may not allow you to release the "hardware ID" because you are not the original owner

I provide these part numbers as a guide please don't go and order theses parts with out checking for your self.

Check the amount of memory on the system.
Load an older version software, pre MCD.
Never had a problem loading software manually.
Unless: hardware failure or not enough memory.

Cx-i has no switch, need crossover cable to connect.
Can you ping it?

Just had this exact problem the other day.
It was an older system, replace HDD and it formatted and install software ok.
Try replacing the HDD.

Cheers for replies everyone, the initial Boot_Install file downloads ok from the FTP server so I know the network config is good.
If I do use another Hard Disk can it just be any old hard disk as long as it comparable in size or larger than existing? Or do I have to buy a Mitel one?
Forgot about the ARID to be honest, thought the i button thing would populate that field and it would just license itself :(

You can use a normal HDD, just use the FixPartition option and it will format and partition it correctly.
It just has to be bigger, I have used a 160GB no problems when I was in a jam. It just had a lot of unallocated space.
The ARID wouldn't be an issue until after software install and licensing was needed.
If you don't manage the ARID then you will be in for a hard time to get the system to the latest release without SWAS.
The best you may be able to do is load the same version that was on there and then sync to the AMC.

Size of the hard disk is mostly irrelevant, even a 40GB or 80GB will work fine. New SSD equiped systems only use a 8GB drive.
And everyone is correct, all of this is for nothing if you do not have the Mitel Application Record ID number and know the old software version. The ARID is tied to the ID "chip" that is shipped with the system, and is assigned a software release number (4.0, 4.1, 5.0, etc) and when you bring a system online you must have the correct software version and ID module for the ARID, enter the ARID in the licensing portion of the software, then sync to Mitel's AMC. Without doing this, you will not be able to program and use any phones, voicemail, etc in the system.

Sorted, I hope!
A fella on another forum pointed me in the right direction with VLANS, switched VLANS off by typing cv at the command prompt and it's now downloading it's software.
The system was starting, downloading it's Boot_Install file, swapping itself to VLAN 210 (in this case) then findiong itself unable to contact the FTP server again!

mmm. I'm going to see if this works on the controller that I had doing this same problem.

Will always need the ARID
UNLESS
its old software and an "offline" licenese was done
This would have given you a password (bunch of numbers)
If you have a record of that then you can still license it

Ok, got a working box with no ARID, no programming, nowt on it!
I thought I would be able to buy a Demo Kit license to basically get it up and running as a test/demo system.
This would be about £150 compared to the millions of pound to get a normal license on it. The only issue is my Account manager tells me I will need a new ibutton as well ::) Is the ibutton tied to the old ARID on the AMC, so even if I put a new license with ARID on the system the AMC will 'see' the ibutton and say hang on, this ibutton should be working with ARID xxxxxxxxxx!
And not work with my new ARID basically?

If you can get the hardware ID cleared on the old ARID I think it will work.
