Title: SIP trunks and soft faxing
Post by: Mattmayn on February 05, 2014, 11:04:33 AM
Does anyone use the faxing in either Nupoint or Esna with SIP trunks as connectivity to the PSTN? If so, does it work well?

Get mixed result with faxing over IP. If you have lots of bandwidth it can work fine. If you want to be sure then you should look to using T.38. This would need to be on the MCD and supported in the SIP trunks.

What would you consider lots of bandwidth?

Good question as I have seen sites where they swore up down and sideways that they had lots of bandwidth and that they didn't need Qos ( they did ). I don't think I can define "lots" just know faxing without t.38 works on some sites but not others. Might be safer to just go the T.38 method.

I wish there was a better solution for faxing over IP. It is very frustrating.

Well, there is a better option. Email.
