Title: 911 Misdials
Post by: ralph on September 05, 2009, 12:44:02 PM
We had another customer with 911 mis-dials again.   The cops were actually dispatched several times.
Traced it to a user trying to dial an international number but not realizing he had to dial 9011.
So again, I had to explain to our techs how to stop the problem.   Short answer is in system speed dial enter a spd dial of "911*" and point it to '0';   Note that the '*' is not a wild card, it's a digit.   This fixes the problem.

I wrote an article a few years back that was published that has more depth to it.
You can read it here: How to stop 911 misdials (http://www.mitelforums.com/articles/how-to-stop-accidental-911-calls.php)

I like this as a solution and will be trying it out/presenting as an option for our customers....

Chak,
Let us know how it works for you and what your customer thinks.

BTW, I'm looking for some more idea on articles to write.   How-tos, commentaries, or whatever.  If anyone has any ideas on what you'd like to see let me know.
