Title: Internal Call.... Silence (for some users)
Post by: mufasa on September 26, 2013, 06:50:35 AM
Hi All

ive run into a tricky situation.

ive got two users ('A' & 'B') that when they call internal user 'C' are connected but are not able to hear anything from 'C'.

this also happens when user 'C' calls 'A' or 'B'

other users in the office are able to call user 'C' without a problem.

anyone ever run into this?

Are these users on the same controller? Same network?

I've seen this caused in a couple of different ways.
1) Routing was incorrect to/from the Station C subnet
2) Wrong gateway or subnet for station C.
3) Firewall between subnets.

In all cases it has been network issues.
So as Mattmayn suggest, find the subnet of the C phone and check it out.

Narrowed the problem down, Teleworkers.

we have 2 Teleworkers some callers to these teleworker users experience this problem. its not all users though.

So it could be port(s) that need to be opened or a bandwidth issue.

We had a similar issue when we installed our mitel system (random calls dropping or not able to here other party internally or externally). We have two VLANS. 1 the default for PC's and 2 for the IP Phones. The 3300 was originally set up for some unknown reason in VLAN1 (all the phones in VLAN2) and both the 3300 and phones were (again for some unknown reason) setup to use our D/G (being our Internet router) to route all the traffic internally. So the path of traffic from the phone to the 3300 was phone > D/G > Layer 3 Core Switch > 3300 and vice versa for back again. Once mistake spotted, 3300 moved to VLAN2 so path for traffic from phone to 3300 is now phone > 3300 and of course vice versa for back again.

You mentioned the problem ones are Teleworker? Run the TW analyzer. It will show you what is failing.

You have network routing issues. You need to make sure all the subnets in your internal network are programmed in the local networks form of the MBG used to control the teleworkers in internal callers can't hear the teleworkers.
