Title: Hardware ID Assignment

I purchased a pre-owned 3300 mxe on ebay. I thought I would be able to take out the chip with the hardware id on my old 3300 that I purchased new 8 years ago and put the chip into the newer 3300 mxe I purchased on ebay and would be good to go. However, I have now been told that the chip in the 8 year old 3300 is different than the chip with the hardware identifier in the newer 3300 mxe. When my mitel rep attempted to register the new hardware id to my company he found that the hardware id is still assigned to the previous owner and therefore would not allow him to re-assign the hardware ID to my company. I have gone back to the seller on ebay and they do not have contact info for the previous owner and told me the previous owner is no longer in business. So I am trying to figure out what my options are. I do not want to force the seller to take the 3300 back because I got a great deal on it and it is in great shape.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The old 100 User, 200 User, MX, and LX's all used a chip for the SysID. The new Cx and MXe variants use a battery looking device called an iButton. They are not interchangeable.

Mitel used to sell replacement/new iButtons, but I can't seem to find the part number or price, so they may not offer this service anymore.

Another option would be to check with Freedman for a refurb unit. I think it would come with ibutton and you could get a cx or cxi. My be cheaper that buying just an ibutton

Thank you for your replies and suggestions. Was my mitel rep correct that my 8 year old 3300 does not have an i-button?

The older systems had a small daughter board for a ID chip.
The new ones have a button that looks like a large watch battery.

I'm thinking that when you buy a used system you have to re-license it.   
I don't think you can simply move the licenses over to your account.

If you're trying to upgrade your existing system then you'll have to purchase a new ibutton.
You can move your existing licenses to that but not from the sysID of the system you bought.

Yep new ibutton required and the licenses from the system purchased off ebay are gone.
